Many thanks to those who came out for the work weekend/prerun. A little trail widening and some trail building! The crew did a nice job on getting a new loop built at Oak Ridge. It is short and sweet, and at first it didn't seem all that difficult, right Jamie? Anyway, it is a good start on a new trail.
RIP to the steep creek crossing on Trail 8 near the old shooting range. Seems the Hollands had to get a D6 bulldozer and some other equipment across Rucker Run at our crossing. It is a nice, easy drop to the water now, but the bottom is a little muddy.
The last tally I heard from the weekend was: 1 tie rod 1 steering stabilizer 1 idler arm 1 water pump 1 fuel pump 1 rear axle seal
Thanks everyone!

Did you guys do any work, or was it just a "break parts" weekend? ;D

ADD a leaking fuel injector on "LEAKY" XJ and a cut 33x12.5 tire as CJ-5 hill, cliped the culvert pipe avoiding the debree in the creek. Luckly I sold Richard a 33 MTR spare the day before. BEN

Well I guess I'm shore glad I didn't go. With my luck I would have lost my motor And had to get towed home. O Yea That already happened. And I wasn't even on the trials

Add 1 flaming XJ to the list. I just talked to Jimmy Hyman. Seems on the new trail he mashed his skidplate up on those little rocks. It pushed the muffler up in contact w/ the body. Just outside Richmond the carpet caught fire. Yikes! Both he and the XJ are OK. The carpet is now burnt and waterlogged from the cooler water he used to put it out.

Right, it seems the list got shorter from the pre-run. But there is still less than a month b4 JJ to get things fixed..

I remeber Jason doing that when we first went to paragon and he kust put his new exhaust on the old xj. Needless to say he burnt a hole in his tent and the carpet. Gotta love those little skids. I would havev loved to be there but, didn't get the jeep back together until Sat. Te T-case seems to work but, i still haven't put it into 4-lo.

It was definately a very eventful weekend. Don't know what was up, but there was mostly just a lot of little aggravating things that went wrong with some of us. I don't think there was anything fatal to anyone's rig, and mostly they were fixed without much fuss and a long drive to the parts store. I mean, how does a tap break when I wasn't even using any force at all? The whole time I'm thinking, this is going good, and then snap! 3 lug nuts lost on one trail ride? Everybody's tired of hearing me whine about the fuel pump, so I won't go there. And for anyone that's willing to try it, that new trail is much nastier than it appears in that little rock garden. They are flat rocks that stick straight up and the tops are very jagged. But this weekend ranks up with one of the best wheelin trips I've had!

Yikes glad I got "Leaky" home before we had 2 flamin XJs iv seen and XJ catch fire from leaking tcase fluid on the cat but not the carpet? Sounds like they need some flame retardant in the insulation. BEN

i found out why my driveshaft was making locker-ratchet-like bad noises. Well, when i was going to oak ridge on 64 i had a good pace of 80 with everyone else. i had a lady on a cell phone (insert choice words here) in a van pull in front of me across 2 lanes of traffic from an entrance ramp only like 50 feet ahead. lets just say that distance was quickly taken up. in a last minute effort to not ruin my weekend (or jeep) i slammed the brakes, cut the wheel and drifted sideways if not past sideways between the van and another car in the other lane. SOMEHOW i kept control and got going straight at around 40 mph through all of the locked differential tire skippage. That stress from the tires skipping detonated the roller ball needle bearing inside of my CV driveshaft on my SYE. what i thought was going to be a $30 fix turned out to be a $120 fix. and since im going to paragon on thursday through sunday i need it fixed NOW. the only place i found was Craft Repair inc. in hampton which is an expensive driveshaft place.
oh well, its all worth it in the end......

Better to break there, than on the trail.
Glad to hear you are okay after some impressive "precision driving."
