Everybody has at least one, correct? If not, T4W member Kenny Smith can hook you up with what you need. I bet he'll even light your vehicle on fire and show you how to put it out! Call Kenny at KW Fire Protection at 757-660-9600

Hi Chris,
This is a good topic, and to the point of my earlier post, I do have one, but I no longer think it's what I need. I have one of the cheapies that you find at the home center stores. A very small ABC extinguisher. I really don't think there's much (if any) margin of safety there. I have the thought that if I ever really needed it, I'd find myself standing there watching a gasoline fire with an empty fire bottle in my hand after it discharged in about 5 seconds. I really don't want to "fight" a fire... I'd rather put it out. So... what should we use? Can't you get Kenny on the Forums here? We could use his expertise here, just like on the trails. I will be calling him.

Interesting, I think I got one at Walmart in Blacksburg,VA (VT) when I started out in this sport in '99. It doesn't look like either but more like the first. It still read in the green, Never used it though. SO whats the word on Fire extinguishers so I can pass my Corrupting knowlege to my brother

I guess we have to wait to hear from Kenny to get the low down. I would like to get an answer because I would rather have an extinguisher that works when I need it than not.

I know I'm just a new guy, but here's my two cents.
In my opinion, carrying a fire extinguisher is a very good idea. However over the past few years I have noticed quite a few enthusiast mounting small extinguishers on the A pillar. I think that this is ok for older vehicles without airbags, but I have heard plausible rumors about airbags deploying and sending said extinguishers flying about injuring or killing others.
Another problem I see is the lack of mounting all together. Imagine being knocked out cold while hitting a large pothole.
One last thing on mounting. If you can’t get to it quickly enough, it might end up in the fire as well.

I think I would hit my head on a regular basis, if my extinguisher was mounted to the a pillar just getting in and out.

I know this is reviving an old topic, but I think this one is worth reviving. For those who attended the clean-up / pre-run at Oak Ridge last weekend, Kenny put on a demonstration that made a believer of me! I now carry an ABC extinguisher more appropriate to use in a vehicle fire. Kenny used the home center store special I had been carrying to demonstrate just how worthless they can be in extinguishing a gasoline fueled fire. As Chris suggested when he started this thread, I'd urge you to call Kenny at Reliable Fire at 1-800-253-5902. Photo Credit: Paul M. Provencher
