not knowing much about the subject i would guess this...
good enough to pass government standards of supporting the vehicles weight, BUT NOT rated for hard roll overs or serious offroading.
so i personally am planning on upgrading.

What stock Jeep roll bar do you own? Depending on what Jeep you have I would increase the existing to cover all occupied seats. Our CJ 7 has the stock roll bar with a welded on front cage. When our first little one came along, I added a bolt on Hard Rock rear cage. www.rockhard4x4parts.com/The ultimate thing to do is tie it all into the frame. I haven't quite gotten around to that.

On the TJ the windshield provides over 30% of the vehicles upside down "capabilities". It's still pretty weak. ORF makes a cage that will Provide you with the protection you need. Tried and true. Type "tracy's jeep rollover" into google and you will see it in action. $320 at quadratec. Bolt on or you can get the frame/floor tie in pieces. Or if you are cheap, find someone who can weld and they can tie it into the frame for you.

WOW.........Thats the sort of roll I'll plan on takeing, that way I will be ready for the worst. Do ya'll think that going to the frame is nessesary with the, 1/4 inch or so, plates holding the cage to the body.

I just put one the rockhard full cages in my CJ. I know a fully welded one is stronger, but I used that one for my own reasons. It's better than nothing. But I just wanted to add that they make a floor and a frame tie in to help out with the mounting at the windshield. I think it's actually pretty strong that way. A bolt on cage is stronger than a lot of people will admit. I don't plan on rolling over 10 times, but I'll have it if I do, I really got it for the reason toynrnd stated...for the little one and for everyday safety. A plus is that it's got these cool bar hoops welded on by the windshield which gives you something to grab on to pull yourself inside.

How much did that thing run you for the full cage? They are ex[ensive but, it is worth it when you got little ones.

Do ya'll think that going to the frame is nessesary with the, 1/4 inch or so, plates holding the cage to the body. Keep in mind it's not necessarily the thickness of the plates but the thickness (and condition) of the material the plates are bolted to. Frame ties are the way to go and my EB (1966 flavor) won't be on the trail until it's cage is mounted as such! IMO of course.

When I was doing the prep work for my cage, I was taking off the padding. Then I discovered that the bolt that holds the passenger side sport bar on to the main loop had busted and only being held in by the padding. If I had rolled it, the bar would broke free from the padding, hit my wife in the head, then fold the windsheild down on top of her.
A full cage is a necassary when you take a vehicle wheeling. I've seen ppl roll on easy stuff.
