Time to fab up something motorized to rotate the tubing while you weld. BTW, I wish I could see that much concrete in my garage.

The welds on the link ends came out nice. Are you happy with them?

Looks great Pat, I'm ooohhhing and ahhhhing over it. But what's the deal with the stacked washers on the knuckle end of the drag link? Don't want to pick it apart because I know you aren't done, but those washers will move around some, which will cause wear on the soft cast knuckle, which will cause them to move more; it's a cycle and will end up with the bolt hole reamed out. You'll tighten, it'll hog out and loosen, you'll tighten, it'll hog out more and loosen, etc....... It's already a very long bolt in single shear.
I think your welds look pretty good btw!

Keith thanks for your comments. I am using the washers to match the drag link to track bar angle. It will not be driven on. If you or anyone have ideas on how to create a steering spacer, let me hear it. I have a couple,,, but would like to see others ideas. I will not spend $800 to put high steer knuckles on a Dana 30, I will build something else first.
Chris, the fixture worked really well. however the monkey turning the bar was a little shaky.

What about weldn the washers together or machine one cunk for a spacer, and weld that to the D-30? I have a couple spare TJ 30s if ya mess up.

i would be worried about welding on the knuckle, then having the all the stress of that single shear mount of the drag link; could snap off going down the road....other than that it looks nice

How would you resolve the single shear on the draglink? And who is big J??? ;D ;D

Pat without spending a lot of money on an aftermarket knuckle there really isn't a good way to do anything different on that knuckle; it's probably going to have to be shingle shear. I agree that welding to the knuckle arm on a cast knuckle is a bad idea. I know why you want it shimmed to match the DL angle, but to me it would be best to compromise and not use extra spacers on that rod end. Just use the misalignment spacers that are on it so the bolt and distance are as short as possible and run it. But someone else may know something better than what I do.

To clear up a couple things. If i was to weld on the outer knuckle it would be something like this. www.genright.com/ZoomImage.aspx?productID=STK2501 but there is still the metal composition concern. The shims that are seen in the picture are a measuring tool. if I insert a washer and measure the angle I then know I need 1.5" of elevation to match the track bar. The washers are ~1/4" each. The bolt is spare from the tool box not the bolt I plan on using. Once everything is measured and drivable the draglink will get put directly on the knuckle like keith mentioned and I will start the driving and enjoying.. If there is bumsteer the I can address that. if not than I can dance an Irish Jig that I saw on youtube One of my thoughts if bump steer is bad, is to get a block of 7000 series aluminum machined and drilled to fit over the knuckle piece and bolt to both the drag link and tie rod holes. the bottom of the aluminum would be counter sunk as it mates to the knuckle so there is support on three sides. I have a machinist buddy who works on base so that fix is cheap.

Ben I could cut the draglink arrn portion off the outer knuckles you have and create this frankenstein thing that would make people scream and run when they saw it??? ;D even more than they will already!!!! ;D

What about running a HIGH steer tierod, over the knuckle, and having the draglink connect to it kind of like the TJ, that might be 2" higher, someone had the drill bit to COUNTER the counter sunk knuckle.... OR lower the track bar mounting location.... OR redesign with 4 link to elimiate trac bar..... OR go back to leafs....

That knuckle is fine but, those tie rods tend to break. Trust me. Loved the steering part of it though.
