Ben you guys always say that but when the time comes nobody pulls the trigger. Well.... if it were still the stock 6-banger, I probably wouldn't hesitate 'when the time comes'. Heck, I may not hesitate anyway. There's two 4x4s I've always wanted: An old CJ, and an old FJ40. Okay, there's actually three, unless I'm losing my mind. I believe Suzuki at one time made something similar to the FJ (no, not a Sami, but that would possibly be a fourth!). There isn't a coolant recovery tank so apparently it just keeps pushing coolant out little by little I'd recommend installing an aftermarket kit one or find one in the junkyard that will work, or even make your own out of a used coolant bottle. I did the third option on my old Nova and it saved me a lot of headaches. Dave G

Yes I plan to hit PNP or maybe just get a cheapo universal one from Advance. Or maybe I'll get high speed and use a coffee can for a while to keep with the theme.

I've used a 5-lb coffee can (metal and plastic) before, too. Do that, it sounds like it would fit the theme well ;D

Do the good ol' boys down in Lynchburg sell their product in plastic? I like the idea, Tony, but..... mounting it so it doesn't break would be the problem.....

Perhaps an old military surplus canteen, camping cup, flask, or something like that ... sturdy - old - cheep...
I vote we convince Fromme to think of the FJ as an offroad 'rat-rod' kind of a thing. Functional uses of left over parts, junkyard jewels, swap meet stuff, etc.

Hey actually we all got it wrong. Since he went to the dark side. Maybe it should be a giant bottle of soy sauce or duck sauce.

Well, since the 'American' engine that's in it now is probably made from Chinese materials.... I probably have something lying around in amongst all my junk that would add that little bit of 'character' and 'flair' to it, but I forget which pile it's in - let alone which state ;D Why do I always feel like anything but Jeep brand anything is 'the dark side'? That's just so silly Dave G

Well I broke down and paid $8 for a kit at Auto Zone. Came with some hose, a very thin plastic jug and a metal bin to hold the jug. I bought it mostly for the bin/bracket because I liked the shape and when the plastic jug cracks I can fit something else in it. So far it's working good and runs a lot cooler. The other day when it was 90 out the e-fan rarely had to turn on. So sweet.
So what I've done so far, mostly just installing the stuff I ripped off the Bronco before it left:
-Mounted my winch; was easy but instead of making a mount I bought one for $80 and it came with hardware. -Mounted my CB and fabbed a tab to mount the antenna. I even got the SWR down to 1.5, sweet! -Added a thermostat controller for the e-fan so I don't have to manually turn it off and on -Mounted the tuffy console, hey I got to have a place to hold my drinks and lock stuff up. Had to spend about $30 for the FJ40 specific bracket to mount it. -And today I installed an Aussie locker in the rear. Yeah I broke down and bought something significant but I wouldn't be happy wheeling without at least 1 locker. I'm still debating on whether or not to put one in the front. Because if I do everyone says it will surely be the demise of the stock birfs.
Other than that it still looks the same. It's got nice armor underneath, but no rocker guards. The floor is really bad and so is some of the body. It's been bondo'd over some rust. So I think I'll just let what happens to the rockers happen. It's a throw away tub. Beat it up and use it.
I do want to get some M/Ts for it. Might as well go with 35s if I'm getting tires anyway I guess. Eddie is making me some longer shackles so I can fit them. And even if I don't go up in size I'd like a little more ground clearance from the shackles.
So I'd like some input on birfields and how well stockers would hold up on 35s and a front locker. Or 35s and an open front. I don't know much about these things but since I've got little investment in this one I think I'm going to be heavy on the throttle.

Quit your freekin wankin! Who ever had to remove a shackle bolt more than once? Just drive it (preferably off the road once in a while too)!! Shoot, at least your steering box is firmly mounted to the frame...
