Custom shackles Eddie made for me. On the side with the PS box I reused an original shackle bolt since it has a flat head and welded the head to the shackle. Looks like it will work ok, we'll see. I could only use 1/4" material for the shackles for clearance, but that is thicker than OE so I think 3/8" would be overkill. Now just gotta get the tail pipe rerouted so the fumes don't blow back inside, need a side exit.

How much flex do you have in the rear? It's probably just the pic but, it looks like you have roughly 3" of up travel before you start digging into the body and flares...

That's about right, not a lot of room in the back even with the longer shackles I put on. Actually there's room inside the wells for more, it's the flares that it'll hit; they are mounted low and turn way down. The screws are actually at the edge of the opening. I'd move them up but they are really old and brittle and already cracked real bad. They'll probably eventually find their way in the garbage. When the spring compresses it will move rearward so the pic is slightly deceiving but it is tight in there. They will be self clearancing tires. ;D I'm thinkin a set of TJ rear flares will do the trick back there.

I have a set of TJ fenders in the garage that I can't use... I actually need your rear fenders for my Wag... I even have a set of Ford F150/F250 flares but those are way too big/round... If you are interested in trading let me know... I'll go out and snap a pic or two.

They're kinda dirty, dusty with a decent amount of mud caked on them (I can clean them up if you are interested)... The only catch is that on the back side the Lip that follows the contour of the TJ body/fenderwell has been trimmed whch I imagine wouldn't matter seeing that it would most likely get in the way of the toyota body etc.

I think Adam has a set of TJ flares for me, if not I'll hit you up.

Not wheeling pics per se, but after pics. I don't think this DOM! I know I hit hard, but not that hard. How to fix easy? The $8 overflow tank didn't make it through the weekend and cracked. I'm back to needing ideas on something more sturdy that preferably will fit in the basket and can be ziptied down. No glass, but doesn't have to be pretty.

Also, 5.29 gear sets are on the way. My crawl ratio is horrible. I'll pull the 3rd members out and take them to Paul C and beg him to help me. This time I'm gonna have him show me how to do it so I can do them myself and not having to keep abusing him. I'll get pics when the stuff finally comes in. Hopefully I can at least have the gears in and broken in before the Nov trip to KY.
Then later if needed, I'm going to a lower range gearset in the tcase. Guess I have to backtrack on my earlier comments of not doing anything for a while. I'm putting the fundage where it counts this time (hopefully). This low range ratio is really bad though. At Oak Ridge my 1st gear in low range was too fast just riding trails!

What about a crawl box? Are you changing the diff gears to improve road manors?

What about a crawl box? Are you changing the diff gears to improve road manors? No room for a.crawl box without a bunch of work and money. Not in to that right now. Doing gears for both reasons, right now i don't even use 5th gear. Offroad that will help when in first, which is a 4.8 gear.

Im taking a chance with 5.29s, i hope they hold up. But i never had a problem with 5.13s in the rubi d44s and these are bigger so i should be ok.

You'll be fine with 5.29s Keith. The weak link is the Birfield joints. I've blown D44 (760x) ujoints with my 5.29's and have only heard of a few problems with 5.29 gearing in the toyota's. Most of them I believe were due to improper installation and too much side load on the pinion.

I don't see anything broken in your pics.
Any sturdy container will work for overflow - you can run the tubing in through the top as long as it goes in far enough to remain submerged so it can draw fluid when it cools off. I've got a POS aluminum water bottle you can have ... but it's probably best if you just wander through pick-n-pull and grab something OEM that looks about the right size.
