Now I know that CTD will pull harder, but the trannies can be a pain. Not to mention I can pick up a newer model Ford with less miles for the same price. I would prefer an auto, so that almost rules out dodge's automatic.
Is Fuel Milage about the same? What about upkeep costs?
any ideas?

I'm a Ford man, so I'm biased. I think the PSD will hold value slightly better, and is better on mpg. Someone may correct me on that though. Upkeep? Well aside from property taxes, registration (it has to be registered as a big truck, no discounts on property taxes, and registration is more expensive too) and insurance, it's not a whole lot different. The only thing to be aware of and watch out for on the Fords is the cavitation issue they've had in the past. Whatever you decide, I personally would want an auto.

The amount of $$$ that you're willing to spend will definitely determine the better deal. I've had 2 CTD's and am currently driving a Powerstroke. All three trucks have been automatics. I would highly recommend the CTD's. The two that I had seem to have more grunt (even before I modded them) than the Powerstroke. But even more important to me, the CTD's got way better mileage. The older 12 valve CTD's got the best mileage. Don't be afraid of the transmissions. I ended up putting a little bit of $$$ into my the tranny of my 01' CTD and had no worries with it. I'm not sure where you're looking, but when I bought my Furd, they seem to be a little more pricey than the Dodges.

I would prefere a dodge but I just thought I would toss the idea around to those with personal experience since I value everyones opinion in matters such as these. ;D

The only thing to be aware of and watch out for on the Fords is the cavitation issue they've had in the past. What is that excatly? There's lots of info on www.ford-trucks.com about it. The short version is that on the 7.3 the coolant would cause cavitation to the cylinder sleeves and eventually eat through it. (There's a scientific reason for it, but it's long) There is an additive that is supposed to be in the coolant to prevent this and sometimes owners wouldn't re-add it when doing a flush. And sometimes there wasn't enough additive in it from the factory. As long as there is enough of the additive in the coolant, there won't be a problem. So if you go to look at one, take some test strips with you and check the coolant. The test strips can be bought at the Ford dealer. My dad has the 7.3IDI w/over 300,000 on his (it's a farm truck) and it's still going strong. I don't think there were any other engines affected, but not sure.

Hey, he did replace his own track bar bolt at Harold's, after all. I just held the backup wrench, scout's honor. (Well, I'm not a scout, so I'm probably swearing on some other scout's honor.) ;D

Already painted to match your jeep, it's got a powerstroke, it's a 4X4 and last bit was just over 3k this morning.
