I'm having brake trouble on my cj. I'm having to stand on it to get to stop. The pedal is not stiff. It has power brakes. I have replaced the pads shoes and master cylinder. I think maybe the 35s don't help I do plant to switch to dana 44 axles in the future but I want to make the factory axles and brakes work for now

I sent you a pm but have you checked the vaccum hose to the power booster? and then how do you check to ensure the booster is boosting

The only thing I can think of is to check to see if you have vacuum at the booster/manifold. Those darn plastic connectors like to crack and cause all kind of problems. Also check engine vacuum for overall operation. Other than that, you do have good flow from master cylinder to each wheel?

Did you replace all of those parts because you're having problems, or did your problems start after you starting replacing parts?

The pads and shoes were worn out and had to do the double pump to get the brakes to grab. I have adjusted the rear drums the peddle is good but just doesn't seem to have any stopping power. My research is pointing me to the brake booster. The lines are bled and I don't think it could be the proportioning valve

Does anyone have an idea what the difference between say an 95 booster and a cj brake booster is?? Can they be swapped? Does anyone have either brake booster to help troubleshoot???

Usually a double pump situation points to air in the lines. If you pump the brakes up does it stop ok then? Or just doesn't stop well at all? Any leakage on the rear wheel brake cylinders?

Measure your rear drums for over size. My CJ was like that for years with the double pump due to the rear drums being oversize and out of round(dang rocks). When I replaced my drums the brakes were much easier to adjust in and the braking was greatly improved as well. If you have a rubber hose on the rear, try clamping it off and see what your pedal acts like. Mine would have a real solid pedal but it was only the front brakes working. Or it is just something a simple as the check valve is bad.... But to answer Pat's question, there are a lot of swaps done with YJ boosters. There is a lot of info on the web though.... www.desertcj7.com/yj_brake_booster_upgrade.htmwww.autoshop101.com/forms/brake05.pdfOr just install one of these mama jama's jeepsunlimited.com/mambo2/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=71&Itemid=30

Thanks for the links. A mechanic friend of mine told me to gravity bleed them that it works than the old fashion way. It is much better but I am going to check those links and come up with something better
