Well as it turns out the engine in the toyota is locked up tight. So now the thought process begins on what to do with it.
Rebuild the yota engine or some sort of engine swap. I already have a 400 chevy small block. or something else.

Trash the whole thing and build Denise's Jeep.

I think the 400 is too much, and the stock motor (although simplest) is too little - you should search for the Goldilocks solution - the one that is just right. It think the 4.3L Chevy V6 or the smaller 3.8L are right in that sweet spot and are easy/cheap to find.
On the other-hand - the KISS principal would lead you to stay simple and stock - get it up and running ASAP and get out there and enjoy it ...

Sounds like it's time for a diesel swap

Adam, I agree that the 400 is a tad bit too much. A 4.3 or the like would not be that bad of an idea.
And Jesse that is not going to happen, no way no how.
I do like the diesel swap idea though.

There's no such thing as to much! ;D I had a 400 small block in a Chevy S-10 that was a blast to drive!

Just a thought, you could update to the Toyota 2.4 2RZ or the 2.7 3RZ motors.

Let me set the scene.....A nice shade tree, a chain fall, and a fridge full of beer. Whoops!, Jesse cut that tree down!

Well, decision has been made and new engine has been procured. It should be a fun swap. For those who are wondering, OM-616.

X2! How does it mate to existing drivetrain? Are you going with oil burning intentions or ulsd?

That will give you what - 65hp and 120 ftlbs? Isn't that about what a stock 22R motor will do anyway?
