I’m getting ready to do a 4” or 6” Skyjacker Rock Ready Long Arm lift on my ’97 TJ 2.5….also looking at going with 35” Supper Swampers (want something that will throw about 3 acres). I am planning on doing this myself and I am wanting to know what kind of probs will I looking at and also do y’all think that the 2.5 is going to be over burdened by the 35”?

I would go 6" for 35" swampers since they are TRUE 35 inch tires. I have "35 inch MTRS" and they are actually 34 and rub with just a 4 inch lift.
You will need an SYE (slip yoke eliminator) kit and extended driveshaft so you dont grenade your Tcase or tear up the rearend.
and yes you are gonna have to Regear to 4.88's front and rear to be able to get out of your OWN way. ;D

You are also going to have to do some welding on the factory control arm brackets. You have to cut the old ones off and weld the new ones on. There was an episode of Trucks on Spike tv that covered that lift in detail. See if you can find that. Otherwise, it's pretty straightforward.
If you get some gears, the 2.5 will ot be overburdened by the 35's.

Aaron would be the one to ask on how he likes the Skyjacker kit. I don't know if he put his on though.

Yeah I put mine on myself. It was my first ever lift kit install too. Just make sure you have ALL the parts before you cut your control arm mounts off . The kit was easier than I thought, just unbolting stuff and swapping in new stuff. Two people would've made it easier though. BTW, don't get your welding done at Hi-Dust. And it only took three months before I thrashed my rear Dana 35, but I was running 38's. The SYE and new rear driveshaft were a must. Everything else came later. If you wanna see pics of my buildup, PM me. I got the 8" Rock Ready kit.

Proper gearing will compensate for the 2.5L. I would worry more about a D35 running 35's than the capability of that little 4 banger.

Man this weekend up at crozet we got to see the aftermath of a 35. One of the guys from i think OCC broke 2 shafts in the same day at different times. So think twice on the 35 thing.

Ask ILovemyyj about the cracks in the welds on his d35...and one housing seems to be oozing some death slime from the diff as well. Can you say "one foot in grave?"

But thanks still! still runnin good, and i'll have them out of my jeep by the time you get back.

Back out of the Skyjacker and had a ProComp 4” with Toyo 35”…man it’s a monster, but no power now….still running the 4:10 gearing and need to kick it up a bit…does anyone now the draw backs running 4:88 with a 6 banger? I know I’ve got loss the 2.5 & go up to 6 or 8 cylinders with a greater gear ratio…..

"StuckTJ" is running 4.88's and 35's I believe, but he might only have 4.56's and "Aaronon38's" is running 4.88's but hes got Bigfoot's old tires on his rig. (39's) ;D
I am running 4.10 Gears with a 6 cyl and 35's with no problem, but then I have more engine mods than most. if you got stock engine and 35's you may want to go 4.56 and maybe a high flow exhaust ( i personally recommend Banks Power) and that will give you a better power range and if you upgrade your intake as well (even just changing the stock air filter with a K&N would help a lot) you will notice a huge increase in power and torque.
Just my lil' ole' $.02 ;D
