Dave, if you go with AFI or any non-factory injection, I'd seriously consider an HEI distributor for that 351.

I noticed there were '78-'79 F250 axles... in the mid-atlantic region... on car-part.com, but it was more an abundance of 3800 lb axles, which I am guessing are D44s. There was only 1 4500 lb axle listed, and I think it was in PA with a price of $Call... yeah, I'm thinkin' they might want more than it's worth to make the trip, if it is a D60. You might check it out, though.

Yeah, now all we need to do is find you a D60 front that doesn't cost quite an arm and a leg! I'm guessing you're going to get that 10.25 all built up and ready so when you do find the front axle and get it ready, it'll be darn near a one-for-one swap out ;D As for me, I got a few "for-now" parts to get and install so I can get my front-end aligned and hopefully won't "have to" do any sheetmetal re-calibration. I probably will anyhow, not so much for clearance issues but for other things... like hopefully a little better trail-ability for the Misfits Run ;D If you need any help with that axle, lemme know... been a while since I've done any internal drivetrain work.

Sweet. Your comment at the bottom of the recent photos noted. Let me know when you're ready to remove axles or anything else. This may be one of my "every other weekend" free weekends as I'm going to be playing rent-a-cop on the ship for a year. I can come pick it up or we can arrange for you to store that stuff until you get your front axle, whichever works for you. Are you going to blast that Sterling axle and paint it before putting it in? ;D

Hahahahaha... I just figured since you're probably going to recondition the internals on the axles that you'd at least clean 'em up a little and do some corrosion prevention, silly me And I'm sure you're being a just a tad little bit facetious, too! ;D I was actually thinking of doing the same thing with my hood, using those gas-charged lifts / shocks like the ones on my liftgate. Again, let me know and I'll get down that way and help out.

That's great you're working on YOUR stuff finally! I know it's going to be AMAZING!!! Thanks Michele, but I don't think amazing! Berserk's ride would be amazing and sick and stuff like that. lol But yes it will be fun! Yea Dave I was kidding. Probably won't paint though. Hmmm-paint or welding rod? I'm on a SERIOUS budget but am still going to put 1 ton's on the EB correctly (I hope!). As in build my own lengthened arms and stuff like that. I'm putting the new 4.5 coils on the front today so I can see the approx. ride height and order the back leaves and perches. Pics added to top 21Jan07...

That's great you're working on YOUR stuff finally! I know it's going to be AMAZING!!! Haha, I hear that. Lookin' good, Dave! You'll like that Sterling 10.25. They've got an inch and change less ground clearance than a 9, but the housing's extremely durable and rock-friendly, and a bone stock 10.25 is stronger than any but the best-built 9. You'd have to do a nodular centersection, 35 spline conversion, and a full floater conversion with the nine to be even close. The only advantage to the nine is the third pinion bearing -- hence why the GM 14B is a slightly better pick than the Sterling for seriously hardcore wheeling. You're not going to have any trouble with the Sterling, though. I've seen some of the other fullsize guys run them hard, and they hold up well.

Chuck, this is off the subject, but my 2000 half-ton had a 9.75 Sterling semi-floater that looked like a good swap candidate. Ever heard of such a swap?

That axle has 34 splines in it, it's good if gotten cheap. I'm using the same axles as Billy so we can share the spare parts inventory... ;D
