That new 9.75 actually seems to have specs somewhere in D60 territory, or pretty close. 34 spline shafts, and a 31 spline pinion input shaft just a hair bigger than the 10.25 (that pinion shaft is a weak spot on the 10.25's). At least one selectable (ARB) and one full case automatic (Detroit) available, and gears at least down to 4.88. The only drawback I can see is it's probably a metric lug pattern on the stock axles. It's five lug and semi-floating, though, so it might not be too hard to have the axles redrilled for a 5 on 5.5 or 5 on 5 ...

Yea that's another reason I want 78-79 D60 in the front- so I don't have different wheels/lug nuts front to back...

All the Ford D60's through 97, even the balljoint ones, are the same 8 on 6.5 pattern (as are all the Chebby and Dodge one ton stuff pre-metric).
As far as I know:
Metric lugs, nasty unit bearings -- only a problem 98+
Ball joints -- 92+
Wide perch spacing (36"): 86+ if I remember right. Basically any 80's or later D60.
Narrow perch spacing (32"): 78-79 only.
The main thing preventing you from using the 86-91 axles is that perch spacing. I see what you mean about the 32" working a LOT better with the EB frame.

Crap. I guess my front ones will get painted black. Chuck, it's not actually the perch width but the width between pumpkin and driver side knuckle...

::nods:: That's really sort of what I was referring to also, they had to move the driver's side perch and the diff housing casting inboard with the narrow frames ... perch should actually be cast into the diff housing on those, isn't it?
Are you guys running these full width or narrowed, anyway? Just curious. Thought they were full width, just can't remember.

Yea cool. The perch is cast in to it. We're running them full-width, I'm trying to go a little lower than Bill for COG improvement...

Sorry to steal this thread again, but I remember a year or two of seven lugs on the Sterlings. Chuck, was it that odd year '98 F250? With the Hertige body. Maybe the 7700 lb. rating F150? I did meet a female engineer from Sterling in the Norfolk Airport a bunch of years ago. I was testing melting rate of ice in rum. It was fun talking axles and trucks with a girl who knew the subject. The traveler I picked up didn't think so.

1998 F-250 had seven lugs. I didn't think so until I looked it up. Wow, what the heck was Ford thinking?? Norm, I'm just going to leave the rest of that one alone ;D

Yep, that's the only oddball 7-lug pattern I remember seeing. Wonder what they were thinking?

Recieved the radius arms I won on EVILBAY ($10.50 + $35 shipping ;D). I'll be fabbing them into long arms shortly. Beats paying $500-800 for bling-blingers, I'll have about $200 into them plus some fun labor...pics to follow, gotta finish a bumper first!

Does this mean you got the 60 already? Or still looking, Dave? Just curious. I'm tempted to do the same thing, fab 'em into long(er) arms myself. I just realized a semi-dilema, though... there is no info on retrofitting anti-lock speed sensors on a 9". I'll probably end up removing that stuff, or "disabling" it. I have a couple of ideas, but that will have to wait.

Still looking for a 60, I just want to get all the stuff gathered/fabbed up so it will be a bolt in affair or at least something close once I do get the 60 together! Interested in a set of long arms? ;D

Hehe. I was thinking of extending the stock arms. I know there are the pre-fabbed extenders with the "stock" threaded ends, but I am considering doing something more along the lines of the heim joints like the Duff arms have. I hear ya about doing everything you can get done so it's just a matter of remove one set of axles and bolt the other right in, etc. And yeah... ya know, Dave, if you want some help or a second set of eyes, hands, or whatever, just let me know. My work schedule is a little different nowadays (3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off). I have today and tomorrow off, however, I have to go to the range tomorrow for however long.... hopefully it isn't too cold... because my aim will suffer immensely!

Stonecrusher uses the heim ends, they're about $125. Yea you can get some DOM, heims and tap out the ends but plug and play is nice too! Depends how much time you have I guess. The Duff's are nice due to the bend (for more turning radius) and they are tucked up a bit which may or may not be a plus when dropping off a ledge. Guess me and Billy will find out one day whose junk works better! ;D Pics added to top 19Feb07... Recieved Jeff's Bronco Graveyard 10 leaf 3.5" rear springs and radius arm extensions. Thanks Billy for getting those arm ends almost ready for the extensions. Thanks also Paul C for setting up that 14 bolt with the locker and 5.13's. Good excuse to come out and see you guys! Ripping that Scrambler apart Sunday was fun, too... ;D Now to strip the rear suspension and move it all back about 4 inches... Dave you'll be able to pick up the 9" next week. Hope you're ready, I've got no storage room here!
