This is the newest upgrade to the truck. It is now 10 years old and after the first upgrade from 30" tires to 32" bfg all terains with a 2" spacer lift. (10 years ago). To the Currie make over with their 5" lift 35" creepy crawlers.(4 years ago) Today going with 7" lift with 37" creepy crawlers. ( With Don's (N2Rocks) expertise and his garage layout) Changing the front Currie short arms to Clayton long arms, nth degree springs and rear spring relocation. Front shock going to be Rancho RS9000X Pro Series Remote Reservoir. Found out that the Tom Woods front drive shaft was stuck! We tried to adjust the front axle to accept the new long arms. It would not move forward. Winch tied to the back of the truck, ratchet straps to the front , trying to pull the front axle, come to find out the front drive shaft was welded stuck. Nylon plastic in the slip yoke had melted due to the proximity to the exhaust. Had to use a tourch to melt the plastic to pull it apart. Looks like I may go without the CV joint so I can flip the slip yoke to get it away from the exhaust. Don got one of his ears welded shut today also. Not a good thing. The other part of this project was to get my skid plate off. 3 of 6 bolts would not come out. rust and my lack of proper installation caused failure of my bolts. Master Yoda said I failed as a true Jedi. So we drilled out, cut into the frame, installed plate, drilled, taped new fittings to accept the new flat head stainless bolts for the skid. There will be a write up on this by Don when he finds time. Also thanks to Andy and the crew for the AM help.

OUCH! Sorry to hear about your ear, Don! I remember when I was a teenager... many times catching hot slag and all of the other fun "by-products" of "hot work" and stuff in my uncle's shop... never had any get in or near my ears, though. I think we usually used a pullover thing kind of like flash gear you see on the ship under the welding hood when we had to get underneath anything along with welding leathers, just in case. Hope you get your ear fixed, and are back to normal soon, Don... we'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers. TJ's lookin' good, can't wait to see it up close and personal Dave & Andrea G

My ear is quite alright. It was just a interesting moment to feel and hear a hot spark going in my ear. The wasn't any burns so I'm good. It surprises me how quick I can move sometimes. Occupational hazard I guess.
Thanks for the concerns,
Don

Ah, so it was made out to sound worse than it was? That is good to hear! As many times as I've had hot sparks from grinding and welding processes infiltrate my clothing, etc., I can relate on just how quickly one can move. Again, glad to hear you're okay.

Okay, question.... was the "melted" part like the end cup / grease seal for the end that slides on the front driveshaft (slip joint?) and connects to the yoke on the front 9"? I think there is a metal replacement part for that, but not exactly sure. I believe those are grease seals, since I believe those slip-joints are greaseable, at least most I have seen are. Looks like you guys are making good steady progress, though! Again, looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Them bolts are plenty lubed. I think Mike has learned the importance of anti-seize. The 5/8" thick inner frame pieces wouldn't be that difficult to remove. There's have to be even bigger holes in the frame next time. But considering the new inserts, the stainless steel bolts, and liberal amounts of antisieze, they'll likely outlast the Jeep.

The melted part was the nylon insert on the slip yoke. we had to burn off the stuff. So hope to replace with slip yoke up high. Thanks Ben on the help with the info on Clayton.

nice building. once you get a few miles on her, i would like to hear how the nth degree coils ride with the clayton setup. thinking of doing the same thing once i go LA. also, who made the flat side plate for you?
