I have seen a post somewhere about the use of Grand Cherokee Lower control arms in place of the XJ arms to clear tires when turning sharp. Any pointers, I have a set of upper and lowers from a 00 WJ, would these work on my 89XJ? Also have a complete front D30 diff from same WJ. Any good uses other than scrap metal?

I put a set of WJ LCAs ('99-'04) on my '88 MJ, to clear a set of 31s I wanted to put on stock Jeep alloys. ETA did the install, took some grinding and such to get them to fit, but they did it in an hour and a half. From what I can see, there's plenty of room for my 31s to clear those WJ LCAs. It's close on the front and back lower fenders, but hey, if it clears by an inch, it clears my a mile, lol! So in your case, I think those '00 WJ LCAs would fit just fine on your '89 XJ. I think the WJ LCAs are a bit stronger than the stock XJ/MJ LCAs anyway, so it would be a nice upgrade.

burning the mid night oil! I thought they would work, just have to get "creative" seeing how they are a bit more "beefy" then the stock XJ arms. i wonder itf the uppers would work, will check measurements and just might install them too. Will keep you posted.

Here's a pic I took this morning of the 31s at full lock on my MJ, and the clearance they have with the WJ LCAs: The advice I got on the Comanche forum for doing this was well worth it! I got a pair of new WJ LCAs off eBay for $85, which included shipping. Priced them at pick-n-pull, Auto Zone, and Advance Auto, and they all wanted $75 EACH. So these WJ LCAs were definitely a good investment, if you're going to run 31s and no lift on an XJ or MJ.

Thanks for the pic. I think I will look into getting them installed this week-end, that is after I pressure wash the under side, got kind of muddy the other night. Something about getting "stuck" in places you shouldn't probably be.( Old logging trail)

Installed the LCA's It took some grinding and manipulating of metal but it went together. Noticed on the drive home (22miles) noticed it handled much better.

Yeah, Eastern Truck Accessories installed mine, and besides grinding down the bushings on the WJ LCAs to fit the MJ brackets, they also had to do some grinding on the brackets themselves, so the new LCAs would "hang" properly. Can't say that I noticed it handled any better than before, but then I've put so few miles on my MJ since I got it a month ago, it would've had to have been pretty obvious, lol! What size tires/wheels are you running? Those new LCAs should increase the tire clearance in that area, that's for sure...

running 31's on stock rims. Have a 3" lift ( combo of spring spacer and HD coils, 2" shackles in rear with new HD leaf pack from Crown.) Running BW fender flares( cut-out) just need to get new rims or spacers to get the tires under them now:). Nice MJ. Need a 6 for that? Got one complete.
