Hi there TWFWs, yes I'm still around.
I have started reaching out to the local Emergency Management people in our area to make sure they have my contact information should any needs arise.
I'll update this forum as things develop so stay tuned. I also will use the Yahoo Group to send out requests for assistance if required. I also have an old roster with phone numbers if it comes down to that as well.
Anyway, everyone keep and eye on the storm and don't wait to prepare. Sams Club in VB was already almost out of D batteries at 7:30AM this morning.

Hi everyone, here's an idea of what you'll be doing to assist the American Red Cross. We'll need Damage Assessment teams to go into stricken neighborhoods possibly as early as Sunday and surely by Monday. A team consists of at least 2 per vehicle. A windshield assessment needs to be done which means going through assigned neighborhoods and streets and notating (on a form) obvious destruction, evidence of water damage and people milling about in need of assistance. Some people may be trapped due to downed trees and hungry and thirsty. With gathered information we can get food and water to them. Some people may be without communication and Red Cross will be able to assist with this and inform out of area friends family members they are safe. Please contact Donny Tabor and give him your availability. Our four-wheel drive vehicles are an excellent means of assisting those in dire need. Debbie

We appreciate you setting this up, hopefully many T4W folks will volunteer.
I am on the DAT at NNSY, so unfortunately I will be tied up there.

This is a great idea and I will gladly help out in my area. I live in Chick's Beach so all of Shore Drive is within a few miles of me. I sent Donny a PM.

I would really like to participate but the Navy seems to think I ought to be doing something else with my time ... I can't imagine why.

The Red Cross will be in need of help conducting initial damage assessments tomorrow. We will need people to go to assess damage in low lying areas of Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach. The Red Cross is also trying to get an idea of who may be available beyond tomorrow as well so let me know that too. Initial meet up at the place below at 9:30-10AM.
If you are available, please let me know and show up at: The Church of the Ascension 4853 Princess Anne Rd. Virginia Beach, VA 23462
Training on how to conduct the assessments will be given and you may be paired up with another Red Cross volunteer.
Any questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer them. I'll be on my e-mail all day or until I lose power. If you don't get a response in 30 minutes, please call or text my cell phone at 757-270-7373.
Thanks, Donny Tabor

Just got off the phone with the Red Cross again.
They would like volunteers from 11AM till 6PM tomorrow. If you can't work the whole time, let me know and I'll see if they can still use you.
I've gotten a few responses, but please let me know if you can make it.
Thanks, Donny

thanks to those who made it out to help with the Damage Assessments. We had a decent showing and completed our rounds by 3:30.
I only drove down 1 street covered by water, it seems that all the water has already receeded. The most excitement I had was helping extract one of the Red Cross worker's Mercury from the grass field where they parked to avoid flooding in the parking lot of Ascension last night.
Anyway, thanks again for your support!

Hi Everyone, what a great team effort! And by the way, some folks came in later than 3:30 and as late as 5 or 5:30. You are an awesome group. As for the excitement in the parking lot - little Meg had parked on the grass because the parking lot flooded the night before. She was trying to avoid a huge rut when her vehicle slid into the rut (we wouldn't know about that would we?). She was very impressed by the rescue. Because of your assessments, lots of people are currently being fed twice a day! There's still lots of power outages and many of these people live paycheck to paycheck. Your efforts have made a huge difference. Thanks again, Debbie
