So I went out and purchased an 08 JK 4 Door 2wd as my DD... annnnnd I'm Still undecided about it.... (Definitely not like a CJ-7)... This is one of those builds that will be worked on every other extended weekend... or when time/money allow. Anyway, After driving it for 2 weeks and having my kidney's beat on with every little bump I decided to order and install a RC 4" suspension lift which netted me 6" of lift per corner I guess the stock coils and shocks decided to retire early. The lift was easy to install, had minimal issues... Took my time did the front one day and the rear the next. I still have yet to install the 1.25" Body lift... I purchased a set of 1 tons and the needed teraflex axle brackets. Hopefully by this weekend I'll have the brackets tacked in their places and then find somebody with a hot enough welder to burn them in. Here are my specs/goals: 3.8 V-6, 6 Speed manual, NP231 doubler, tom woods driveshafts, 37" tires mounted on 1 tons geared with either 4.88's or 5.13's... Eventually, I'll toss on the aftermarket bumpers, flat fenders etc... Slow and steady is the name of the game for this build. Pictures to come.

I like your ideas! With that particular susp lift, body lift, and the addition of some flat fenders you could easily run 38-40" tires with the right bump stops. Definitely go with 5.13s, or 5.38s if they make them for the 1 tons....i wish I could have put them in mine. Good luck with this build!

Hey Rich, nice project! My only thought is that 37" tires don't provide a whole lot of clearance under 1 tons, unless you shave them. Sterling 10.25's are pretty good though for clearance. Dana 60 rears aren't really 1 tons IMO, more like 3/4, if that's what's going in the back, but they do have better clearance. Also, with 37's and that much lift, they may look a little small. High line fender kits are they deal. Good luck and hope to see you out on the trails!

Thanks man... 40's huh? lol. Perhaps one day. I have my qoute for (5) 37" pitbull rockers... Had to choke down my glass of water... $2021.83 + $135 shipping to a business etc... I'm thinking 5.13's... Trying to keep the rpms down a little as this will be the DD... not too worried about the crawl ratio... 4.46 x 2.72 x 2.72 x 5.13 = approximately 169:1 which Should be interesting.
Thanks man... I didn't even think about the lack of clearance under the tons to be honest. Hmmm, that's probably something that I'll have to address later in this build. First I have to purchase a Good welder that can handle up to 1/2" material. Yup, the rear is a 10.25... I agree about the stock D60 rears... As for the 37's... Yeah, they'll probably look small with flat fenders... I might as well start looking into 39's then... lol. I have 32's on it now and these things look like training wheels... too funny, lol. Yeah man... my fingers are crossed that I'll have the bulk of this build done by the beginning of summer... until then, every other weekend is going to be busy for me... lol.

As you may remember, my Heep runs one tons (60 and smoothed 14 bolt) on 38s and the ground clearance is OK. If you go wider, the lack of clearance will affect you more. Make sure your belly is flat and smooth - the longer wheel base will put you on it more often.
Did you sell the 360 or are you ready to offer it up for really really really cheap?

As for tires, I've been searching for a good/used set of 39.5 x 12.50 x 15's... The underside of these 4 doors is pretty flat and there seems to be wide variety of company's that make full skids for them... Started doing my measurements for the doubler and it looks like I may run into clearance issues with a crossmember/mount for the gas tank... I may even have clearance issues with the 1 ton rear... it may touch the rear of the gas tank... thinking about ordering a rear mounted tank... As for the 360... For $1250 I'm taking a HUGE lose on it... Sooo, with no takers I have decided to keep it and continue to slowly build/upgrade it... (for when I get an AMX or Jav) Looking to do a full roller set-up, aluminum heads, 13:1 CR... forged crank, 4 bolt mod... yup, she's going to be sick... Goal is 600+hp ;D

Coming from experience with the JK's if you go with 37's get a set of 5.13's, with 39's go to the 5.38's. I'm running my JK (auto) with 5.13's and a metric 35 and the RPMs are only 250 higher at 70 then they were stock with 4.10's. You are going to learn that the 3.8 is not a very powerful engine and it will struggle on the interstate if you go any lower in the gearing.

Thanks Paul... I've been hunting for a set of 39's... 5.38's will be installed in the 1 tons. I can definitely say that this 3.8L is weak at best... I have 2 1/2 years to get this Jeep right for when I move out west... by then she should be tough/reliable. ;-) Just ordered some Polyperformance HD Ball-joints... ($270 and change) I didn't want to order these because of the 1 tons but, until they are ready I have to keep the DD safe... My steering has been loose for a little while and the other day I was doing 70mph on 564 and "shazam" Death Wobble... Had it with my Excursion until I changed the pitman and links... but, it wasn't nearly as bad as the JK.
