Time for some answers.
Pat, There is an adapter available to mate the OM-616, OM-617 engines to the W series toyota transmissions.
Adam, actually its about 72hp and 150lbft, which is about 55 more than a stock 22re. But with 5.29 gears which puts the crawl ratio around 220:1 don't need much hp.
And yes Norm its around what a stock 22re delivers.

Wow - I knew the old Yotas were underpowered, but I had no idea the 22re only made 17 hp!
What is the working rpm range of the OM-616? How heavy are they?
This should be interesting.

Actually, its got less hp and more torque. 22re's are around 110 hp and 94lbft of torque. Thats if you have a really good one.
And sometimes they only feel like they got 17hp. Which is most of the time.

Russ has the flapper with him and it is installed in the passenger seat. Sorry Denise, the editor in my head just couldn't stop me!

Hey Russ, why didn't you go with the 617? There is a whole car with the non-turbo 617 on Craigslist for $700 right now.

I went with the 616 cause I got a really good deal on it. Besides since its a 4 cylinder and not a 5 cylinder it will fit better and less modifications needed for cooling.

Look like a good choice to replace the 22R. Are you going to put a turbo on it later on?
