Well it's official I got my new toy, It is a 1998 Toyota Tacoma green 4x4 v6 Extended cab. The Previous owner rear ended an Colorado a few weeks ago. So the first step will be making it road worthy again but that shouldn't take to much effort. Here are a few pics to start off the thread. This a pic at the accident site. This one is after he pulled all the damged parts and straightened the core support and the hood.

Yeah Chris I can't wait to get this thing going. I hope to have the weekend off and if I do I will get it to a point where I can drive it daily, that will make Brandy happy. We have been working with one truck for months now because the explorer keeps melting clutch slave cylinders and I haven't been able to get the transmission back into the explorer because of crappy weather or work. If I hadn't come across this deal I was gonna start looking for a (shhh don't tell tony) Wrangler. When I sold off my ranger build I got rid of a lot of my tools and I have limited space for all the equipment I used to have so a lot of this build will be shelf bought parts. I just couldn't do another ranger type build with shelf parts and end up with the type of rig I wanted in the end. SO luckily I got the Toyota now and there is plenty of aftermarket support for it.

After a crappy day at the hospital i didn't feel like installing a radiator and what ever else to get it mobile so i had it towed to the house. I can't wait to get started on this tomorrow or over the weekend. Feel free to make suggestions i look forward to Tony and Craigs comments.

Just wanna say thanks to Scott for the great deal on a fresh set of headlights and a grill, and thank you Chris for mentioning something to Scott about me needing some parts. I managed to get the new radiator, slightly used clutch fan and new battery installed today, I also got the old headlights mounted temporarily till i can order a new core support and then i will mount the stiff i got from Scott. I did a oil change while i was at it and took the Taco over to Scott's and aside from the 4wd not working the truck did well it drives smooth and shifts nice. With the cost of the truck and the parts that i have bought so far I'm only into the project about 800$. Just need a new bumper and core support and the front end will be all taken care of.

I can't wait to run the trails again. I'm really not sure what path to take with this build. With my current "shop" arrangements I'm not sure if a SAS is an option but don't want to waste the money on an IFS lift. So I'm scanning the taco forums trying to find some options. I don't wanna be confined to the bunny slopes so I may not be able to avoid the SAS.

As far as the Found On Road Dead goes, I HATE THAT THING. about 8 months ago the clutch slave cylinder melted then i payed a guy to install all new stuff and a month later another slave cylinder melted so its been sitting ever since then, I did pull the tranny and xfer case around christmas time but haven't had time to mess with it with work and the crappy ground conditions. With any luck I won't have to work this weekend and I can get some wrenching done on the Ford. I'm hoping to have both trucks ready at some point so we can take both trucks wheeling.

So are you going to figure out why your slave cylinder is melting before you replace it again? What's the deal there?

the only thing i can come up with is not getting it bled properly and then it heats up and melts, I've never had this issue before but then again i always had my buddy's bleeder set up. BTW this has to be the worst thing on a vehicle to bleed. You dont bleed it the traditional way. A friend of mine that was a ford mechanic had a 2" diameter suction cup that attached to his hand pump and it worked great for bleeding the slave. But he moved to jersey and cant tell me where to find this attachment, so I'm SOL. I am bench bleeding this one to see if this helps at all.

I received the new core support as well as some other stuff to get the tacoma looking right again. Hopefully I will get to work on it this weekend. This past weekend me and Brandy got the tranny installed and hopefully got the slave cylinder bled properly, if the slave burns up again that truck is done.
