Well its official it takes me 27 gallons less one way driving the new ford vs my old chevy one way from here to Alabama Thats a $140 savings! ;D
I can make it one way on two tanks with the new Ford verses the 3+ tank fulls with the D-Max. Now I will say the Chevy pulled the empty trailer a heck of a lot better but I'm willing to sacrafic a little towing power for the increased gas milage. I'll let you know how it pulls this box slammed full! Scott

I'm guessing you didn't read this article before you got the Ford.... Dodge/Ford/Chevy truck comparoYou really have to comb the internet and read everything before you buy a new tow rig...

That's pretty good Scott. I wonder what Pat S. got towing his 44 footer from Al to Fl this past weekend? He told me he went across the scales and weighed in at 27,000 pounds! Any hills down south? ;D

i am about to fill up on the dodge again, i should be at 600 miles when the light comes on for this tank full. this is mostly city driving and a couple of 90 mph runs across the JRB. it should only take 32 gallons ti fill up.

That is great, Scott. It is always good to find that you have made a good decision. The fit and finish, comfort, and reliability of your truck is a bonus. Don't let the other crowd discourage you......they just wish they owned such a ride. Enjoy!

Thanks all, haven't had too much spare time to play on the internet...dial up!!! takes way too long to do anything. So far the trucks been doing great. We've been pulling a trailer full of ATVs on the weekends now instead of a Jeep. Can't complain too much since the quads are easier to wash after the mud

sorry might be a little late, but the best on the ford is the SCT XCal 2 or 3. My mileage went up after adding that and adding 33x12.50's.

Sill getting the same mileage out of the CTD's?
My 03 D-max is getting about 17.5 empty with the DD scenario.
I got 13.5 towing my jeep over the pass with the cruise at 70MPH. Didn't even downshift the tranny. Just pulled like there was no Jeep behind it.
A friend with a 6.7 CTD Quad cab was getting about 14 towing his jeep. His best tank was 19.5 MPG all highway all flat no trailer.
I just don't see where you folks are getting these numbers when towing.

I heard the 6.7 was getting worse mileage than the 5.9. It has some additional emissions stuff I think. Our Dodge in DD duty is getting 16-17. Towing, well that's another story. Keep the rpms reasonable and we get 12-13 towing 4 Jeeps (2 regular, 2 Power Wheels ;D)

My 2001 Dodge diesel with the 5.9 has been consistently getting over 20MPG even towing the 18ft trailer. Last tank I did very little towing and got about 23-24mpg which was mostly hwy. Sean

With the burban I get 14mpg towing my Yota. It also doesn't matter the speed. I ran 3 times up to Charlottesville just before I left on cruise and I got 14 convoying, 14 at 65 mph by myself and 14 at 75 mph by myself. Right now I'm pretty sure the injectors are fowled pretty good (judging by how sluggish it is to start) but I don't think that will effect my milage much. The plans when after I get back are to put a 4" heath diesel turbo back exhaust to try and drop the engine temp a little in the hills and some +40hp injectors since it needs new ones anyways. Hope the fuel milage won't drop too much with these additions since from my understanding diesel is about $5 a gallon right now.

My early 2004 Dodge (2500, 4door, shortbed, 4x4) gets 17.5-18.0 mpg commuting and Ive seen 20-22.5 on the highway at 65 mph. The trip to Crozet towing I got 15.5 mpg which was better than I had expected.
The issue I have is my new job is ~ 45 mile from my place, and my truck is my commuter .... I'm thinking I might sell it and buy a honda and an older cheep 3/4 ton for towing. We'll see.
