Got back from Crozet last night at about 9:30 and was so tired I decided to leave the Yota on the trailer. My mistake... got up this morning and I couldn't get the straps loose enough to remove the knots. after about 15min with a heat gun on each strap I had managed to thaw them out enough to get the straps off... Guess next time I'll just use the chains if the weather is going to go cold and icy... just thought I would share!

The straps are 27 feet long so the other 23 feet I don't use I wrap around the ends of the trailer and use a simple cinch knot to secure the excess... and don't worry... the straps are rated for 3333 lbs each. I also chock the tires, set the e-brake, leave it in 1st gear, and both cases in low. I still keep the chains and chain brakes in the tool box if needed.

one other suggestion:
Just roll up the excess and use a zip-tie to hold the roll together... cut the zip and you're free the next morning.

It's just easier to wrap it around the trailer ends because my tool box isn't big enough to hold them if they aren't rolled after use. I'll put a bigger box on the next trailer I get.

I thought about that but occasionally I don't just haul vehicles on my trailer (like yesterday) so it's kinda handy to have the longer ones when needed.

Paul, I too have to leave my straps long due to the need to haul other junk besides my wheelin' junk. I found some small bungees with the ball on them, mean to hold tarps to frames. Got some long ones, I then roll the straps in a 7-8 inch coil, then bungee the coil to the strap, far away from the ratchet to open and close it. This allows me a "shorter" strap for the trip. I'll get some pics later today to show.
