Crozet was a very wet beginning starting Friday night during tech inspections and didn't stop raining till mid-day Saturday. All nine courses really got soaked. Unfortunately 3 out of 4 Super Class buggy's left (wimps) because of the "conditions" leaving only one who would win by default but chose to run all the courses anyways. A few stockers and modified-stocks ran four or five obstacles on Saturday and then four or five on sunday. All the competitors had to start on all nine courses or suffer max-point peanalties even if it was just to put the first axle through and then back out for th 40 point max.
I'd have to say each obstacle was nearly impassable without following a good spotter...especially one who could keep you from flopping. There was a lot of carnage, a lot of flops, and a full two days of the most impressive off-roading/rock crawling I've ever seen. Crozet is certainly the most challenging competition trails I've seen and all the drivers we talked to seem like they were blown away.
Jack (Jlmjeep), Dave (Core4wd) and myself were all volunteers this weekend. Jack judged an outrageous hillclimb (obstacle 5) while I judged obstacle 6 which was an off-camber floppertunity (x4) into the creek which only a couple vehicles did. Mind you only a couple made it to the end. Dave spent most of the weekend catching everything on video and should be in download mode. There was a lot of great footage to be had and I'm sure we'll have lots to view later.
Kudos to Chris & Heather Packard for hosting the VROC event. Had lots to work around due to the changing weather conditions and all the carnage that Crozet's difficulty level brings. They both did a great job of keeping things moving and keeping the crowd alive.
I anxiously await the next event!
