Actually, part of the headlight problem with my Nissan is the fact that the last body shop to ever touch it did NOT replace the buckets and hardware for them as stated in the work order. Shady bastidges! Yeah, I know how to aim them without a level, I just have to find a level enough spot 'round here........ (pregnant pause)...... OH yeah, that's right, there aren't any places I know of that would work here.... except -maybe- on base. Highly doubtful, though

In Up-State NY where I live every person that gets an inspection gets the walk around touch this measure that (No joke.. Tires/rotors etc)... And now they hook-up the sniffer to the exhaust as-well as a diagnostics check... and that gets sent automatically to Albany and if the message comes back yes they slap the sticker on you pay the fee and you're done... If it comes back no this or that... come back later if you get it fixed... It sort of sucks, My father has a couple trucks that he had to get done.. the 1st one passed the other one didn't due to something was a miss with his emissions... (He hasn't touched anything on it).. He has a print out of what or how everything is on it... I'm not liking that new system up there from what the people are saying... I'm sure it'll trickle down this way as-well. Speaking of Inspections..... If I wanted to put my Jeep on the road (With ANTIQUE Plates) what are the rules and regs.... After I register it, Do I have to get it inspected and then get the Antique plates/vise-versa?... Or do I just register it, get the antique plates and call it good? Thanks: Rich

I'm not sure about here as far as if "antique" vehicles have the same inspection requirements or not. I'd actually have to look that up. I'm kinda curious what is the minimum age of a vehicle that qualifies it as "antique"?

25 years old is the minimum age. Register the vehicle as an antique is very simple and cheap. 13$ for a one time registration. The vehicle may be driven to and from events/shows, excercising the vehicle or drive it up to 250 miles from home, but not to and from work. Of course you can trailer it anywhere. As for inspection, no there isn't a requirement but you have to be careful of what you are driving is road legal if you intend to drive it on the road.
For more info contact your local DMV.....
But a good inspection place in Newport News is Texaco off of 17 in Yorktown. Fair and honest....

Awesome.... that was the info I was looking for... thanks man! I don't imagine myself driving it too often... 103-105 octane isn't cheap... It'll run off of super with octane boost but it's not the same plus it doesn't smell as good ;D

My girlfriend went to get my Excursion inspected (BP, Hampton Blvd) while I was at work and it ended up costing me $46... They suckered her! They said I need new tail lights because mine were dim!!! and my Windshield Wipers were bad!!! BULL$!&T... I wish I was there... There was nothing wrong with my tail lights and my Wipers were only 2yrs old and worked better than the ones they replaced them with... I'm sorta still kinda P!$$ED that they see a female and two kids and decide to take advantage of her lack of Automotive knowledge... I even had them print out a copy of the requirements and in it, it says nothing about the tail lights... (Besides replace burned out/broken etc). Honestly, How can you properly check the tail lights in the blazing sun and determine that they are dim??? Of course they're going to appear to be dim in the bright sunlight... But after all was said and done... lesson learned!!! Next time I go, and z'd like them to try that $h!T with me because It'll be on if they give me a line of Bull$&!T like that... I miss my small town environment... (there's not so many crooks and if there are some you know who they are and stay away from them etc).....

Fun, fun. And about antique plates and driving to and from work, oddly enough as I was leaving work yesterday I saw an older CJ with antique plates in the parking lot.

With the 98 TJ which I just got inspected before I got rid of it, I went to a Citgo station on Holland before you get to Lynnhaven, no drama whatsoever, nice guy too.

A to Z is not what they use to be. Last year they failed me for headlight aim and no third brake light on a '93 YJ. They use a machine to check the aim of the headlights. I had to go to the head huncho at the state police to fight them on the brake light. YJ's didn't come with 3rd brake lights until 95.
