Looking to get a bit more ground clearance, I have a np231 out of a 90 XJ, wanted to replace my 242 with. I have the solid front axle, so no vac lines to deal with, maybe a small electrical issue regarding the lever position indicator. Would like to get this done before the 1st, so maybe this time I will make it over the logs at Harold's and not need drug off by Tom:) HAy thanks for the help though:).

I figure since the 231 is still in vehicle, I can unbolt the linkage quadrant and lever and remove and install everything at once into my 89. Just drop the tranny down enough to get to the top bolt on teh T-case.

Are the lengths of the t-cases the same? WIll you need different length driveshafts? Also, I thought I read somewhere the 242 was a tad bit stronger than the 231. Anyone?

There is nothing wrong with the 242, just the fact that it sets so low. Plan on installing an Aussie locker in the front so the Full time would be rendered useless. Figured the 231 would work fine. I also have the DShaft out of the 2 door XJ to go along with it, that is if its long enough.
