We're dealing with an ongoin factory alarm issue in the zj. Been doing some reading about the problem, apparently the alarm will go off at random when parked, so much so to kill the battery. It seems to be a common problem with the grands. Anyone have this happen to then? How do we fix it? Have heard of the purple wire trick, but being a 97, heard that trick doesn't work. Any ideas?
The owners about ready to sell it if Someone wants it...

Will she take $100?
Is there a fuse that will disable the alarm?

I found this tid bit of info jeeps unlimited
Have a dealer disable the alarm in the Engine computer and the BCM (or replace both with non theft-alarm) AND cut the purple/yellow wire at the BCM before powering up the new units. That's pretty much the only way.
Sound plausible...

If that doesn't work..... how about finding/disconecting the wire for the horn going to whatever is triggering the horn to go off. If that causes the horn not to work you might be able to rewire the horn. Sorry thats just how I think.

It sounds like there is a problem with a switch/sensor that monitors access to the vehicle. For what ever reason the vehicle "thinks" that there is an intrusion of sorts. Not sure how the Jeeps are set up, but on a Ford there are event recordings that actually show what triggered the last alarm event. But this is something that your dealer will be able to do only! Guys at Greenbreir or Starr should be able to help you.

I believe the alarm will go off when the battery gets reconnected.

Odd, I have never heard of this, but the wifes jeep (97 ZJ) does do some wonky stuff upon startup.
It acts like the battery is dead and the alternator has to play catch up. The belt squeals for a few minutes, the voltage gauge bottoms out and then after a few miles down the road all is fine.

That sounds like a whole nothe mess there? Is the alternate workn correctly? Need a new belt? How does your wife open lock her jeep? Key or remote? Were tryn a new battery as step one, maybe a bad red top....
