I am searching around for a new CB radio and I have found that for the money it is coming down to Cobra 40 channel or the Uniden Pro 510XL.
Can Anyone make a recommendation either way? I am planning on using a firestick antenna mounted on the spare tire carrier.
Thanks for the input in advance. Uriah

Ive got the uniden pro510xl in my jk. So far so good.... I would love to have a full size, but it wont fit. Checkout signal communications over in Suffolk....they carry both and are a sponsor for our trail ride... Good luck, and they are both good choices Bryan

I also have the Uniden pro510 in my F150 and it's a very good basic CB and pretty popular because it's small. If you can fit a larger one, then the Uniden PC78 Elite as a much better unit. That's what I have in the trail rig. Either way I second going to Signal, they sponsor us and give us a club discount, and he carries both; while you are there he will tune it up for you for better performance too. The firestick is a popular antenna, but the Wilson 1000 or 5000 is a much better antenna. If you can only splurge on one of the things, then don't skimp on the antenna.

I have that Uniden in my CJ7. Signal tuned it for me to match other equipment I have. After getting that one, I got the Uniden 68 Elite in the tow rig. I won one of the 68 Elite's from Signal at the Trail Ride and put it in the XJ. I have a regular PC68 that is going in the 3A.
I third the recommendation to go to Signal.

I had the cobra using the firestic with no problems on the trail. I recentlyl upgraded to a gallaxy radio for more options and power. Still using the firestic
Just let Bill over at Signal know what you want to do with the radio and he will hook you up.

Wow. All great replies guys. Thanks for the input and the referral to signal. Does Signal carry antenna mounts for the rear tire carrier. I was going to pick up one from www.arizonarockyroad.com/antennamounts.htmlBut since I am a beginner I will head to signals anyhow to at least have them tune the radio. I am leaning towards the Cobra because I can buy it at the Navy Exchange online and I am trying to pinch as many pennies as I can. Thanks again all, Uriah

I'd bring the exchange online price, and tell Bill you're pinching pennies, and see what he can do. You will need the antenna mounted to do tune it properly, so if you are going with that mount, I'd go ahead and get it.

Bill will help ya out a lot. I am running a uniden pc68elite. Best radio I ever bought. I am running a wilson little will antenna and its not a bad antenna for the money. I got about 10miles with it on the highway in any weather. But Bill tuned the radio and everything together. I will soonly be going to a willson 2000 or 5000 setup and probably be upgrading to a galaxy because the truck is going to be used for haullin when i get otu and talkin on the cb is a great way to get info and have fun. BTW having backlighting and weather is a good idea too.

Hey does anyone have an address for Bills(Signal). I tried looking it up on the Net no luck. I got my Cobra 19DX IV today, now it is time for him to pair up a mount and antenna for my needs.

Stopped by Bill's today. Great service. He completely understood what I wanted to do with my setup. He did not try to sell me anything over priced or more than I really needed. The place was a bit hard to find at first but as long as you pull into the truck stop and go over the railroad tracks , he is behind the large building on the right. Which is a pressure washing service/truck wash. He is in a single wide trailer. Very competitive prices. I made it out of there for $37. Included 4' tunable firestik, 18' coax cable, and mount. Plus he through in some lock washers to ensure I get a good ground on the spare tire rack. I will post photos of the install. Uriah

Uriah, did you ever get this installed? I have the Uniden and a 4 ft Firestik and I am trying to come up with a mount. I have the stock wrangler tire carrier and would love if something bolted up to it.
