A 1in body lift will give u 1in more clearance at the fender well as well as lift body 1 in higher. A 1in shackle lift will only raise suspension .5 in and suspension up travel will be limited same amount.
Depending on what ya got, u might be able to do both..

I'd stay away from the shackle lift if I were you, the steering will start to get funky (caster) if your shackles start increasing in length.

Thanks....It already steers like a Log wagon...But It seems to sit really low...I drove it tonight and felt like I was all over the road...and that was at less than 40mph...stabilizer needed but tire clearance is an issue..any kind of bump seems like it would bottom out..I will post pics so you can see what I'm talking about..

How big of tires do you intend to put on it? How much can you lift it before it won't fit in the garage anymore? How much money do you plan on spending? How mechanically inclined are you?

max tire size is 33's and 4 inch lift before it won't fit in garage This is more of a driver/street rod so i do not need a lot of clearance. I just want it to have a better stance and if i do decide to go off road i wold like a little more clearance. just looking at options available before i decide.... I want the most bang for my buck like anyone else...Not afraid to do the work just don't want to buy tools that I'll use once or buy parts i don't need.... just checking options at this point. thanks

What are your intentions as far as wheeling goes? If you will be doing mild trails, beach, and the mall then I would forget the longer shackles. But if you intent to do some challenging things then a longer shackle in conjunction with some lift springs will help out with axle travel (articulation, up and down travel). But doing so will screw up the caster and the rear pinion angle, so you will most likely need to add degree shims at least in the front. Otherwise you won't be able to keep it going in a straight line. For 33's you could do a combo of things. 4" lift, or 3" lift + 1" body lift, or 2" lift + shackles + body lift, etc. Personally I like the Black Diamond 3" CJ springs. They are soft but ride great and flex nicely.

Since it is an '84 CJ7 and you plan to put 33's on it and do mild wheeling, I would look into:
-2.5" Lifted Leaf Springs with all new bushings. While doing this convert to the YJ springs in the front. They are a wider spring and will ride/flex better. Make sure you got all new U-bolts with the lift.
-Stock length HD shackles with greaseable bushings. Make sure you get the shackle to support going to YJ springs.
-Shocks to go with the lift.
-1" body lift, since your Jeep probably has the original body mounts. Also this well help align the body to the frame better. Ever look at your Jeep from the side, it seems like the hood is going up down. Later on you can add the 1" engine mount lift and a flatter belly skid for more ground clearance.
You'll replace most of the 28 year old bushings in the process and help it ride and steer better.
