Hi there, been a while... working on wifes 98 TJ w Black Diamond 3" lift. (springs, swaybar links, shocks, drop pitman arm, rear track bar relocator, modified FRNT track bar " hole drilled") running BFG AT 31"s. The steering is REALLY sensitive, a little movement left or right and it moves, hard to control on normal paved roads unless there is NO surface deviation (pot-holes). Checked alignment.L/R- Camber..-0.5 /-0.7, Caster 5.4/5.6, Toe .13/.12. What does bother me is the rear numbers Camber- -0.6/0.6, Toe- .18/.32. I think my problem is in the rear toe, bent or damaged control arms?. This jeep is running stock arms front and back. Smooth at all speeds, just the steering is really touchy, extremely easy to "over correct". Thanks in advance for your inputs.

OK, went threw and loosened every control arm and bounced the hell out of the jeep. Tightened all bolts and proceeded to align, final numbers are: L/R, F to B. Camber: -0.6/-0.7 Caster: 5.2/5.5 Toe: .10/.11. Rear Camber: -0.6/-0.6, Toe: .22/.30. Thrust angle: -0.04, Total Toe: Front 0.21, Rear 0.51. Open for suggestions. Thanks

There's nothing wrong with any of those numbers at all. It's pretty spot on. You can try a tad more toe-in and a little less caster but I don't think that will help. Most likely your touchy feeling is related to the tires, and they are tracking the grooves on the roadway. Have you been by Starr Motors to have them check the alignment and inspect everything? I bet they can help you out. I know my alignment is off and I have the same darty, touchy feeling and need to get it on their alignment rack soon.

Unfortunatly I am no longer in the area, relocated to Florida. The good thing is that I work at a shop with an alignment rack, hence the numbers:) . I did a no brainer... I checked teh tire pressures after all this, the front were at 45psi! the rear were at 34. Oops.. roocky mistake, either way the ride home will prove, if anything I did made it better or worse. I have to drop the tank tonight, bad fuel smell from rear, no leaks seen,

Someone will correct me here if I am wrong, but if the steering feels hypersensitive after deflating the tires try drawing a "imaginary" line through the ball joints down toward the ground. I am pretty sure that line should intersect the ground just behind where the tire first touches. Then you can adjust the control arms to rotate that angle. I hope this helps.
You mentioned pot-holes??? does the draglink and panhard bars have the same "slant" or angle. If th jeep drives fine until you hit a bump or pothole that could be your problem. I hope that really helps

Ride home proved that I actually did something right. At least I am not using both hands to keep it between the lines! Seems "more" stable, but I do have a little play in the track-bar,and teh stabilizer looks to be stock. So when time and $$ permit I am going to get an adjustable track bar (0-3") and a heavier stabilizer. The fuel smell was... fuel pump NOT secured to tank!! Just setting in it! Surprised that on a 30 mile trip there weren't any EVAP codes? Its all secured and running right now.
