OK..quick question..I am in the process of mating the TH400 to my 304..I was told that the flexplate needed to be weighted.... Now I ordered a flexplate from JC Whitney....it doesn't have any weights on it but they say it goes with my set up...MY question is..will the flexplate have an actual weight welded on the flexplate anyone got a pic or catalog part# that I can reference. I don't want to get this thing together and have to tear it all apart again.. Thanks a lot....

I've never heard of a flex plate being weighted. I have heard of flywheels being weighted though. Typically the flex plate doesn't need weight because the torque converter bolts to it and the fluid mass smooths everything out. I could be wrong though and if I am I'm sure someone here will correct me.

No need for a weighted flexplate. As Paul said....Flywheels, yes. More material=more need for balancing. Fluid dynamics in the Torque converter will negate the need for external weights on the flexplate.

keep in mind that this is an automatic th400 with quadratrac transfer case that came out of a mid 70's grand wagoneer. 304 motor... i have purchased 2 flexplates..one has a small piece of metal welded on the front the other does not... just trying to make sure i put in the right flexplate..both were designed for this setup? weird to me...
