I have a 1998 tj, 4 cylinder, automatic. when I bought it it has a 3"lift on it. brand is Black Diamond. the lift was just springs/shocks, sway bar links, rear track bar relocate, front track bar mod, 1" t-case drop. Running 31x10.5 r 15 BFG A/T's. running stock control arms. My question is this, This jeep rides like a tank to put it mildly. I am installing an adjustable front trac bar tonight. Is there anything that I can do to help with the ride or is it something that is common with a Black Diamond lift? This is a DD only..for now. I drove this once and was SOO happy to get back into my 93 Bronco, the jeep beat the hell out of me!! Maybe I'm just getting old:(...

I think the Black Diamond lifts may be equivalent to the Rough Country leaf spring lifts, and ride stiff.
What tire pressure are you running? I think the 31" BFG ATs are Load Range C, 50 psi max, correct? Don't run that much pressure!

If you are running 31's you can probably run close to 20 psi and be ok! TJ's are light...

Sounds like the springs are way stiff or the shocks are not rated for your vehicle weight.

Thanks for the responce. I think that I am running 32-35 psi in the tires, I'll check tonight. Would the ride change at all if I went to a good set of adjustable control arms (front and rear). If so, any recommendations. I would think that with the lift that the arms are stressed to the max.

Replacing the control arms won't affect the comfort but will give you better control of the vehicle. If you go to a heim joint then you're ride will suffer some (from what I've read online) I've always ran rubber bushings in my control arms so I don't have experience with the heims but I have done research.
Tire pressure should help a little but I don't think that that's your issue. I have some stock springs here if you would like to try them and see if they smooth out the ride a little. Or you can take my 4cyl TJ for a ride and see if it handles the same. (stock suspension with spacers and procomp shocks)

Thanks Paul for the info. I was able to get the track bar installed last night (JKS). I have to say that the JKS bar is really built well. Found that the frame was about 1 " too far to the right, so now everything is lined up right. For now I think that I will leave the suspension alone and get the seats replaced. I have a cheap set of "racing" seats with almost no padding in it now(previous owner installed). I do wonder if I could try a set of skyjacker springs, maybe a better quality spring than Black Diamond uses. Later I will look into a set of adjustable lower control arms. Thanks for all the input. Paul, I would take you up on the offer, but I now live in Florida.. Thanks anyways.

Your TJ might be a thousand pounds lighter than the Bronco. Wheelbase and width are larger, too. Just drive the Ford and be comfortable.

Nice!! I can't remember the name brand of the seats, but they are padded and covered in a mesh/cloth material. The idiot installed them wrong( left on right & visa versa) also rigged the seat to the track by welding them!! I will invest my money into a good set of seats and new tracks. Anyone have a set they want to sell? The wife is happy with the steering since I installed the track bar, so one hurdle gotten over, next is teh seat issue. Thanks again for all the input, oh and laughs.!
