Lots of good places in Virginia to test it out. Unfortunately everything local is private land. Introduce yourself, tell us about your Jeep, join the albeit slow discussion on the forum, and come to a meeting next month. You will definitely get hooked up with some people who can show you around.
May 3rd is Offroad day at Star Motors that should be a good time. May 10th in Virginia Offroad association members ride in Gore. Its expensive and a trip, but everyone from the beginner to the extreme will be there.

Welcome Chris! Like he said...local stuff is almost nonexistent. A couple of pieces of private property that are invite only, then there is 11 miles of beach at Corolla, NC, about an hour and a half away. Starr Motors is a good test place. Then there is VA4WDA Annual Trail Ride that Tidewater hosts is in Arrington, VA in September.

I am currently in the military I have been stationed here for about a year. My wife and I decided to buy a jeep it is a 2014 wrangler oscar mike addition. Havent done anything to it yet. Since we got it we love it. I will defnitly try and make the meeting. I heard about a place in north carolina called the outer banks.

You can go to Corolla, the northern part of the Outer Banks (OBX) for free. If you go south (Oregon Inlet and Cape Hatteras)there are more miles of beach but you need a National Park Service permit. $50 for a week, or $120 for a year.
