What a GREAT trip and fun trails! I think Tony may have taken the record from Tim for fastest downhill backwards! We also enjoyed the best food in Pennsylvania, compliments of Chef Big J. I took lots of photos, and Jason even shot some video. I'll start getting them organized and post some of the highlights on the main web site tonight. Lyle

Photos from the trip are posted on the main club web site. Click the link for "Where We Go", then click "Paragon - Rausch Creek - 5/09" How "flexy" is THAT?! ;D

Looks like you guys had a great time. What kind of problems was Bill having with the CJ? Is he still having carb problems? The other question I have is- Did Jason put the XJ on it's side just once or twice? By the sequence of the pics, it would appear 2 times. It looks like someone needs to buy him some beadlocks unless I keep seeing the same pic of his tire under inflated.
So how about that trip report?
Jonathan

Jonathan The carb problem was remedied by Tony, Jim and Jason before we hit the trail the first day. Turned out the linkage was binding on a bracket, keeping it from closing all the way. The shot with everyone under the hood of the orange 5 is inspection of a slightly tweaked tie rod, corrected compliments of Jason's winch. Bill's Jeep did earn a new nickname, however: "The Exxon Valdez", due to the old fuel tank giving in to the beating on the rocks. Poly tank is on the way. Sharp eye on Jason's flop overs, Jonathan! Actually, it was three. The photo sequence on the web site is a little condensed. Jason is a VERY determined person, and Jim W. (Tony's Dad) is a VERY determined spotter! The pic of the tire off the rim is not Jason (this time)! But, I'll leave the narrative on THAT one to Tony. ;D

I think that I have seen more trail pictures of Jason's XJ on it's side. Maybe you guys should take some other pics of it than that. Now was Bill a passenger thru the series of "just a little bit further and I can clean the side of my Jeep"? I would think that at some point Bill would have wanted to get out. OK so if it was Tony, did he also bend a rear spring? Or do I just need new glasses? Jonathan

Well, lets just say that Pat's theory on drive shaft's has a slight flaw. His word were. It will never flex as much on the trail as it will in your drive way with the high lift. I haven't looked at the pic's yet but, i think what you are looking at is the remains of my left rear tire and spring after a high speed downs hill backward run. Which happened because the front shaft came apart just as i put the front end over the top of the hill climb. It stopped abuptly. and there was no time to get a strap on it because it went staight back down faster than it went up and the brakes were locked up. Trying to get reverse didn't matter because the hill climb was a little wet. Needless to say it was one heck of a ride. I think my heart started agian about 5 in later. All jason say was on my face as it took off. Tony

I wondered when Pat's driveshaft theory would come up! We thought several times about calling him from up there if we could get a cell phone signal. Tony and his Dad have popping that driveshaft back together down pat (pun intended) as they got LOT's of practice. While Jason saw the look on Tony's face as the YJ took off backwards, all I saw was Black and Tan coming back down the hill at me FAST. I found reverse and USED it! I don't know about the heartbeat, but I know it was a good minute before Tony drew a breath! Oh, while Tony mentioned the left rear being destroyed in the decent, the right rear was also flattened (compliments of a couple of well placed boulders on either side of the hill climb), so he came to rest with BOTH rear tires flat. Wild ride indeed!

Jonathan As I understand it, when you're at 90 degrees, the seat belt cinches down pretty hard, especially when you have a death grip on it with both hands. Getting out was not a viable option, although, I think Bill enjoyed it. He sure got the ride of his life.

Not that I'm trying to clear my name but I believe our driveway conversation was with regards to SHOCKS and not driveshafts. You were almost pulling it apart a Oakridge, I thought you had replaced it???. If you must point the blame than point away.

Well at Oak ridge we were pulling the buggy leafs off the frame, I don't think we totaly seperated the driveshaft. I bet CJ-5 Hill would have been a good test hearing your hill climb story. I guess there only one way to test your equipment, ON THE TRAIL!!!

Ok maybe it was Craig's that I have seen a picture of then. But since everyone is clearing their name, it was an XJ that I saw the underside of. Don't they all look the same? Wow Tony, I don't know if I want to know if that was caught on video. Glad you were ok tho. Guess Lyle was too busy to get any pictures. Jonathan
