A few of us had this trip planned for a while, and I keep forgetting to post it up here. In case anyone is interested. Nothing hardcore, cause well, it's GW. Mostly going away just to get a way, ride a few trails, maybe a (small) trash pick up on 2nd Mountain, since it will be during that time frame our friendly tree huggers have deemed it to open (I think). We'll camp primitively up near the stream. Leaving Thursday morning, coming back Sunday at noonish. There's a possibility of leaving on Wed, haven't decided yet. It's a nice way to get away from cell phone reception, the news, and everything else (maybe even the family ).

Last call.......getting the blankets and tent heater packed up! It's gonna be very pretty with the colors, the leaves are falling late this year. While we have no plans, we have discussed Crabtree Falls, Big Meadows, Peaks of Otter, in addition to the trails up near 2nd Mountain. We will leave Thursday morning about 10.

I believe we may have a few pics with us wheeling in the white stuff. That nice snow turned to rain at the bottom of the mountain though. There was nothing but nice scenery all weekend, there was one spot that is still with me, where all the leaves were still on the trees, and all different colors, and on top of all of it was a dusting of snow. Well worth the drive up there and sticking it out Fri night through the rain/snow mix. No carnage, except my front license plate is somewhere on the dry river trail. I forgot to unclip it from the fairlead, so I don't think I'll mount my plate there anymore with maglite clips. I did find a fairly large and deep puddle, and it filled up the inside to about 3 inches above the door opening, so that's going to take some time to clean up. I'm glad I wasn't on 33's and aired down, or I'd probably be buying a new engine. I'm rethinking whether a snorkel would be useful now. Or, I could just stay out of the puddles I guess. Chele has all the pics, so even I have to wait until she gets time to burn a CD or download them before I can see them all.

I will work on that soon. Oh...and no frostbite, it was an AMAZING weekend. As Keith said, scenery scenery scenery. Awesome. The snow was cool too. I only had about 30 minutes of aggrivation wondering if I was going to be spending the night on the side of some unknown trail, in the cold....before we found our way out. GPS needs to be on the to-do list for real.
