Take a look under the front end of your wheeler, if you have a solid front axle, you'll see the space around the axle shaft where it enters the axle tube. If you can see in there, dirt, mud, and assorted crap can get in there. This muck will sit in the bottom of the axle tube, rubbing on the axle shaft. Not a problem in itself, but when you do front end maintnence where you have to pull the axle shaft, its best to clean it outa there. If you dont, then when you reinstall the axle shaft you'll probably push an assortment of this crap right into the differential where it can play with all those expensive parts, locker, gears, bearings, etc. The solution is as simple as a length of allthread, a couple nuts, couple lock washers, and a fender washer a bit smaller than the inner diameter of the axle tube. Elcheapo axle tube cleaner/scraper. Hold it off the bottom of the tube, slide it in till it hits the seal, then scrape the crap outa the bottom of the tube. Elcheapo tool and a few seconds taken to clean the crap out will make your differentials happy. Its a good idea to carry it with you on the trail in case you or someone else in the group has to make an axle repair, we all know its hard enough to keep dirt and whatnot off the parts when making a repair on the trail.
