???Has anyone ever heard of boots or gaitors for the swivel balls of a Land Cruiser? I can get them for any Land Rover, but can't seem to find them for a Toyota. Any help would be appreciated!

On a Land Rover, Toyota, and even old Jeeps, the outboard driveshaft joint (Birfield, U-joint or CV) is enclosed in a shiny metal ball thing (the swivel ball) which takes the place of the knuckle and upper / lower ball joints on a standard Jeep front end. The idea is that the enclosed member can hold 90W oil, cv grease, etc. BUT the shiny swivel has to be smooth for the seal to work, end it is exposed ! Land Rover recognized this and made 'gaitors', originally from leather, to cover and protect them on extreme use trucks, like military. I am trying to find a set for this Land Cruiser, which will be used ALOT on the beaches ;D! So far, no luck . But maybe....... Mike

we call that a closed knuckle front end around these parts. a few guys in the club have this setup, but i don't believe that i've seen any of them with boots. maybe a liberal application of duct tape would do the trick?

Sent off an e-mail to Boyce Equip. Thanks for that one ;D, I knew they were there, but didn't think about them for this truck. The Saab line was a bust, they're talking CV boots. The Land Rover link is a good one, already been there and I'm seriously considering making my own set of leather ones. They're not too complicated, after all Now, should they be sticky side out, or sticky side in.....?
