Hey i am trying to figure out the gear ratio in this front end i have in the garage. I think you count the teeth on the ring gear and and the pinion gear and divide them and that is the ratio. I have 9 on the pinion and 41 on the ring. 4.555555. So is that a 4.56 gear ratio.

silly that means no new locked front end for the Feb trip. I only got 4.11's in the yj now. i guess i'll just have to save it and get a rear ready with 4.56's and most likely a spool. ;D Dont really have to worry to much about the tires wearing funny with the spool. The little 4 banger doesn't have that much power. Tony

What locker are you planning on using, or is it in the front end you have on the floor?

The front is already set up. I haven't any idea what kind it is but, i know it has one in it. Maybe you will know when you pick me up on the 27th for the Va meeting. Heck i got the entire thing for free. it only had about 300 miles on it when the guy went to a 44 and a dana 300 t case. He blew up his 231.

Hey Tony,
Is the axle on the floor the same as the one in the front of the YJ currently? (D30?) Can you take the locker out of it and just put the locker in your axle?

No it looks like either a detriot true trac or something like that. You know with the entire housing and everything. I suppose it wouldn't be to bad to change out but, i will most likely just wait until i get back and finish it up before we go up to pa in march.

huh? it doesn't matter if you have a 4 cyl. the tires are still gonna slip just as much. that's the only thing i don't like about my spool is that it DOES wear the tires funny, and thats not funny when you go to rotate the tires and the jeep starts shaking uncontrolably. a spool is not a good idea if you drive it every day, if not then it's not that big of a deal.
