Alright who knows what size wrench fits on an AX 15 fill plug? I really need to know since it's already drained. I know call me stupid for not making sure that I could get fluid back in before I took it out. I assume that it is metric since a 7/8th wrench is just a little too small. Any help is appreciated by my wife so I don't steal the XJ in the morning. And Ben don't tell me a cresent wrench. Jonathan

A lot of the fasteners on the newer Jeeps are metric Jonathan, so you have to use a metric Crescent Wrench. Duh!

Jonathan, Try this... 7/8th is too small, so, do an SAE to metric conversion using this: www.sosmath.com/tables/sae/sae.htmlSince that works out to 22.225 (between a metric 22 and 23), and you know that's small, you should be looking for a metric 23. ps. I really HATE the metric crap!

Hey, I have a 23mm wrench you can use come on over. We can also put it in the garage so it's not so cold

$700, That's my final offer. Does it matter if the rear driveshaft is in? Because it is sitting here in my office on my desk.

thats an odd place to have a drive shaft laying:) SO anyluck? whats goin on ? Well the driveshaft is here at work today since I appears to be original circa late 96 u-joints and figured since I was there anyway, might as well replace them. The driveshaft came out easy enough but the joints don't want to come out. I broke 3 snap rings taking them out. I brought it to work to clean it up a little because they don't want to seem to release. I have a ball joint tool that I have used in the past replacing u-joint with no problem. I was probably just too cold by the time I started working on it. But I did just get back from Autozone with some wrenches for the fill plug so tonight should be adventurous. Jonathan

cool well I believe the new ujoints come with new snap rings that should just pop out. Did ya try some PB on the joints and let it soak, that could loosed things up. Sounds like fun.

Tried to post last night, but guess it didnt go through. For the fill plug, I know you already got the right wrench, but in the future if you have a standard wrench that is just a lil too big for that metric bolt, stick the blade of a regular screwdriver in there to take up the slack. Works every time there is room to use it.
As for the u-joint clips. Put the shaft in a vice, and use a punch (screwdriver) and tap the rings out of their slots a lil with a hammer. Your not trying to remove the clips, just free them from the clutches of that evil snap ring groove. Once they move a bit, the snap ring pliers will get em right out.
Oh, and I'll go $701, driveshaft aint that important.

Ken, I had thought about the screwdriver tip but by the time I had gotten to that point, it was starting to get dark, the wind was picking up a little more and I was tired of lying on the ground any longer and since I hadn't eaten all day, I was starting to get hungry. Oh well, guess I get to work on it tonight by flashlight when I get home. It may be a little tight getting a screwdriver in there since the clutch slave line is right there next to it and I didn't want to make things anymore expensive. And what you described for the snap rings is what I was doing when 3 of them broke. I guess that they were getting old. Do I hear $725?

Well in case anyone is still interested, the fill plug isn't a 23mm, that's too small. But a 15/16 box end did the trick. Since it was dark, I didn't compare the plug in the wrenches, just put in some RedLine in it.
