Does anyone have any tips or tricks that they would like to share? I plan to replace my trans mount over the weekend on my 97 Jeep Wrangler. I know to support the trans with a jack, I was planning on putting a piece of 2x12 between the jack on the transmission. Take off the bolts for the mount, then put another floor jack under the skid plate and take off the skid, lower it down, clean it off, replace mount, and put back together in reverse order. Am I missing anything?

Hey Jonathan, when I did mine, I had to take it off and on a couple times so figured out a method that takes like 30min to replace. FIrst off when you get the mount, you will notice that you half to screw in the threads for the bolts to spin on using the nuts they give you, I would suggest putting some locktight on thest to eliminate them from spinning when you go to tighten the nuts. second I would ditch the nuts for some self locking nylon nuts. I believe mine came loose after a trip or two wheeln or might have been rock rash. a problem witht he tranny bolts since they stick below the skid at least on the YJ that is. as for jacking, I used my stock under hood jack on a piece of wood to give it height. then jacked it up till it was just under load. then unbolted the tranny, then the skid. the jack was positioned just forwardof the skid. I lowered the skid using the bolts till I had one side out and the other lowered as far as possible, then it drops out YOu might want to watch for your your Catalitic coverter clamp bushing thingy when your dissassembling, assembling. I guess while you have the skid down, you can change the fliud as long as the jack ism't on the drain bolt Let me know if you need any help, I have Sunday off and have the tools to do it, ever the pump for oil can even use my stock jeep jack

Ben, I may be giving you a call. I will know something later in the week. Still have to actually have the mount in my hands and with the weather, don't know whether the Mopar truck will deliver. But your right about changing the trans fluid, plan on doing that at the same time. I have my gallon jug and a did pick up a pump yesterday at advance but they only had the one kind. Wonder if it's the one that falls apart while using it? Hopefully I'll have a day to find some nylocks, Specialty Fasteners should have them. Just never took this apart. On the Wagoneer you could see everything. I plan on taking a look at the cat and hitting it a few times with my fist to see if I can hear some rattles coming from inside it. But I'll let you know. I did buy some more PB Blaster this morning since I ran out the other day.

On the pump, which did ya buy, the $3 special or the $5 luxo? If you still have the reciept I can check on the luxo model for ya, its kind of nice knowing it won't fall apart due to oil and leak all over you and waste precious RED LINE
