Well, today wasn't the best of days. I woke up this morning to go to work and well, i had a severe antifreeze leak coming out of the head. I thought it was a head gasket. well, once i got the intake and exhaust manifolds off i found that 3 of the 4 freeze plugs in the head were rusted out. So i got the new freeze plugs, gasket, o2 sensor, and a couple of other needed things and while putting it back together i cant get 2 of the bolts in. It is the last 2 all the way in the back. So i finally gave up on it once it got dark and will hopefully continue tomorrow afternoon. If anyone has any ideas how to get these things in let me know. Also does anyone have a set of taps so i can try to tap these last 2 holes before i do them again.

I have taps. Is this for the manifolds or the head?

well, it is actually for the head. I have all the bolts in except for the last 2 back by the firewall. With the 4 banger there is plenty of room to work but, i just cant get those 2 in. I figure if i can get the taps to run in once you get out to the last one i figure the bolt will start. Unless you have a better idea. This is the first time i have ever had to do this before.

Silly question, is the head gasket in correctly?

I never had to take the head off so i suppose it is. on the 4 banger the intake and exhaust manifolds are on the same side and use the same gasket. I have all of the bolts on but, the last 2. 1 holds both the manifolds the other is just used for the exhaust. I pretty much felt like this about 9:00 last night . Hopefully it will be nice and go together once i get home today. Tony

Dang sounds like a mess over there. BY the way, how are those bolts working on the buggy spring perch? Hope the jeep is staying together a little better. Sorry to hear about the leakage though. BEN

On my 6 cylinder the exhaust manifolds are notorious for warping the second you remove them. I bolted mine on last time starting from the back of the engine. When I got to the front, I use a crowbar to pry it down enought to get the bolt holes lined up. The intakes are more forgiving and since they are aluminum, you might be able to grind out a little when the bolts go through

Chris is right about manifolds/headers being warped and difficult to get back on. One way to make it easier is to get studs to replace the bolts. Plus the studs will give a better clamping force. Make sure to use studs with coarse threads for the head, and fine threads for the nut side. A little antisieze on the nut side treads is a good idea too. Studs should be available at any Advance, Auto Zone etc.

Well, i ended up finding this out the hard way on the warp thing. I did get it all together today and it is now running fine. It isn't leaking or anything. ;D Now to Ben's question. All is well so far with the buggy springs. MORE sent me out the parts i need to put it back together the correct way and they should be here any day now. So once they come the little jeep will be baack to 100 percent again. Can't wait for that one. Thanks for all the help. Tony

I think the nuts will be getting locktite, lock washers and any thing else i can get on there to help them stay on. As far as the front shaft we will see on that one. I am not to sure what to do about it yet. It is close but, i think it will be fine on the jeep jam. I'll just have to keep an eye on it. Tony

hahahah are you going to ride under neath to keep an eye on it, well Might I suggest that you take your highlift or floor jack and lift the jeep till you MAX out your down travel, and see if the shaft is still connected. Iv been on and see one too many safts pull apart to worring about yours. I don't know if you have allready done this process or not. Just thought of it since I watched the spline being pulled out last weekend. OH have a queston for a fellow LIFTED YJ, did you buy extended brake lines, front and rear, MINE is real to excessively tight in the rear and am in the market for a line. Where did ya get one from, yadayadayada and shocks also BEN

HAHAHAH YUP and PIGS FLY TOOO!!!! Well finally had it with looking at a pile of spring in the yard so decided todays as good a day as any to lift this puppy, well actually be collecting parts for the last month. SO far, its gone from barelly fitting a boot toe under the flares to probalby over a foot. Thats in the springs alone, tomorrow is the 1" body lift, 1"MM, skid row engine skid, new exhaust, and a used tcase skid to round things up, then the nit picking of aligning the rear drive shaft Need to order NEW, longer shocks, rear brake line, and probably buy some more bolts of course. Should be at the JJ prerunn for everyones viewing pleasure BEN

I got new lines because like yours they were very streched out. I got them at National tire and wheel but, that is because my dad lives up by it. They are skyjacker brand shocks are also skyjacker. Fronts are for a ford with an 8 inch lift and backs are for there standard 2.5 inch kit. But the lift kit is explorer pro comp. I got a little of everything under there. But, so far it seems to be workinf pretty good if i can keep those buggy springs from coming off. . Quadratec and 4wd had them cheaper but, they were all out of stock so i got them form National. They couldn't match price but, they did take a little off of it for me. Tony
