I am looking for opinions on tires for a daily driver/tow vehicle. I don't want them too aggressive, too wimpy, too loud, too quiet, I want them just right. I think BFG ATs might be too much. The Goodyear GSAs too little. Right now the Durango has Goodyear RT/S tires. They have almost 70,000 miles on them, and unless I get the club tire groover and open up the edge tread a little more, they are about done. Unless you folks have a better idea, we're getting the RT/S tires again.

I heard that the BGF AT with their closed tread pattern are a bit scarry in the rain, ANYONE? But have also heard their great for the SNOW that VABeach gets every year. Guess LOOK for the tire deals. Maybe some pepboy specials? BEN

Swampers, it's your only option. ;D Actually if you got around 70K on your current GY's and you don't have any real problems with them and they work well when you are towing, sounds like that would be the way to go. If you get GY's, make sure that they give you a blimp, I saw that one a commercial where the guy gets a blimp. ;D

I would like a complete report on the difference between the RT/S and AT/S, in triplicate, with an electronic version, Power Point presentation, some 8x10 color photographs, and a nice small shrubbery, on my desk Monday, 6:30 a.m. Please include any personal opinions as well as price differences.

70K on the tires you have and all the towing you have done, I would buy the same tires with that kind of mileage performance.

You know, they do have tread left, but like most tires the maker doesn't cut the tread depth on the outside lugs to the same depth as the center of the tire. You lose all your water shedding ability because the lugs are basically closed up. I assume it is so the tire handles better when new. Any ideas???

I still think Swampers. Noah needs to get used to the noise of a mud tire so it doesn't scare him the first time off road. And I will be working on the Power Point presentation for you.

Go to Tirerack and run a side by side comparison on the two. Be sure to click the link at the bottom for reviews, and check the "wet traction" ratings. Looks like they also have a promotion going on now where you get a $25 Home Depot gift certificate!
