Well, i replaced my oil pressure guage sending unit back before the may paragon run. That is when i realized that my little 4 banger runs about 60+ on the interstate. lets just say they dont like to run at those pressures. I found some oil under the jeep monday evening before i left with Mr Boucher for the Va meeting. No big deal jeeps always leak a little. Well, by the time i got to work at oceana the next morn it was coming out pretty good. not a complete stream but it was leaving big puddles wherever i parked it. It took 7 quarts of oil to get from oceana to the house in suffolk. I went and got a new guage because it cost 1 dollar more than the original replacement sending unit. So i will let you know how well this guage holds up to the 60+ pounds of oil preassure constantly.

Tony,
Have you located where it is leaking from? My co-worker's YJ was leaking oil from the sending unit on the block. If you changed yours, you may have gotten a bad one. They are press fit together and will leak in time, maybe yours is getting an early start. Also I am wondering (could be way off base) whether your pcv is blocked up so that you have such a high pressure. Other than that, let us know what you find out.
You aren't leaking oil out by the oil filter seal are you?

Well My 90 4banger has always had High oil pressure since Iv owned it. At idle it read straight up at 40. then one touch of the accelerator, it dive to 80 or so. Runin down the interstate it may rise to jsut above the 80 once the engine warms up. I think I read in the service manual that is suppose to have a HIGH pressure reading above idel and idel pressure is less than 40 or something. CHangn my PCV didn't change a thing. GOOD LUCK!!

Now Tony, when you say gauge, you mean the gauge in the dash correct? I would think that would be electric and wouldn't care about the pressure. It would only be seeing an electrical signal.

The sending unit that mounts to the engine block is what went bad. I blew the top of it off. Right where the wire hooks on it is plastic. That is what went out. I got a new guage and ran the oil line off the existing hole int he block mounted the guge right under the dash where the ash tray is supposed to be and it is now reading 40 at idle. then stays about 62 or so once you hit the gas. I figured i wont have to worry about the guage going bad and if it does it has a 1 yr warrenty. It worked great today and i think i just about got all the oil burned off the exhaust. Thanks for the info Tony

You sure have to love the smell of oil burning off the exhaust. Helps clear your sinuses.
