Just bought a 97 TJ. Its got a 4 cyl, 5 speed, soft top and no options. I never realized how fun these things are. Picked it up two weeks ago and windows have been off about half that time. I am still trying to figure out what some nifty things about it. Gonna have to get a book for it. Big difference between this and the 5000 lb anchor.

Congratulations! They are great for wheelin', but won't haul near as much as "the anchor".

Hmmm, the first thing that I would do is replace the stock gas tank skid. The fuel tank sending units are expensive to replace.

I love my little '98 4 banger TJ! Two things about the '97 - you can do the "key on - key off" thing three times and get any codes on the odometer (not so in '98, sadly), and, if you keep hearing an odd noise when you shift into 5th, close the ash tray. (true) Welcome to the TJ 4 banger group! I've gotten a lot of good advice from fellow club members on outfitting mine that has helped me avoid MAJOR mistakes along the way (thank you, toynrnd!) Let us know if (make that WHEN) you want to start making 'er trail ready. In the meantime, enjoy! ;D Lyle

Well, I do have to correct you guys. Right now the TJ is able to tow more than the anchor. This is because I sunk the anchor. I was playing back in the dunes in NC and the puddle was bigger than I thought. It needs motor work. Two vehicles in two weeks is the reason the little woman doens't want me to play with the TJ. We will see what happens.

Just as the special signiture says, the other vehicle is the 3/4 ton gmc with the hummer tires. I was on the Paragon run. As a side note, I had to put the top back on tonight. Its going to rain tomorrow. I hate that I lose the mirrors when I remove the doors. Also don't like that the relocation bracket reduces visibility on the passenger side with the door on. I am going to make a bracket for an other set. Just need to get a second pair.

Somewhere out there on the internet (Lyle probably has it bookmarked along with the rest of the internet. Don't know how he finds everything when people look for it but he can) anyway, I have seen a write up where a guy put CJ mirrors on his TJ up near the windshield hinge I think. He made them quick disconnects. I have my drivers mirror relocated so it isn't on the door. I think that state law requires that you have a drivers side mirror. When I take the doors off, I just don't have a passenger side mirror. The relocation bracket for the pass. side makes it so you can't see the mirror with the doors on. That write-up looks like a good solution. I'd definately consider the quick release. My son had the CJ style mirrors on his '97 (notice I said "had"). Yep, yanked the passenger side off on a tree. The windshield hinge relocation brackets all seem to suffer from the problem of moving the passenger side mirror so far forward that it becomes useless with the doors on. If you're looking to design a solution yourself, here's something the Aussies came up with that might be a starting point: www.wn.com.au/steve_m/mirror.html, but I think you'd still need to modify this design to move the passenger side out a bit. Let us know what you come up with? Looks like this is one of those problems that doesn't really have a good solution on the aftermarket.

That plan looks like the relocation bracket that I have on my drivers side but if you mirror them, it can be made for the passenger side. Personally I don't think that I use the passenger mirror much. They say when you pass someone you shouldn't pull back into the other lane until you can see both of their headlights in your rearview mirror. Another thing that you should keep in mind is when you open your door, you don't want it to hit your mirror once it has been relocated. If the strap is not connected on my door it will wack the mirror and it isn't good for the paint on the door. See I told you that Lyle would have a link.
