When I'm on the board for a while whether reading threads or posting on a frequent basis, internet explorer will crash. This happens both at home and at work. At times it will cause me to have to reboot my computer and it's not like I am running a lot of programs at the time. Jonathan

While in IE, click on Help | About, and tell us what version you're running. Most times that is a memory issue, but can *sometimes* be helped with an upgrade to a more current version. If you are at version 5.5 SP2 (or above) you should be ok. The other question I have is: How much RAM memory is installed? If 64 meg or less, buy more memory (at least 128 m), if 128 meg or better, check virtual memory settings in control panel (system applet). Elect to not allow windows to manage memory, and set virtual memory to 2.5 times installed RAM (physical) memory both for minimum and maximum. Oh, one more question: what version of windows are you running?
You didn't mention if this happens at other times or only when on the club forums. If it only happens with the club forums, I'm betting changing the virtual memory settings will help. The issue is that with the pop-under ads, you end up with multiple instances of IE running, each one eating memory.

The issue is that with the pop-under ads, you end up with multiple instances of IE running, each one eating memory. Well I'm running version 6.0.26 of IE, it says that I have 127 MB of Ram, I believe that it would actually have 128MB. At times I can get like 12 windows open at a time if I'm not paying attention. I'm running Windows 98 here at work. When I go to elect windows not to manage virtual memory I get a message that tells me I may not be able to restart my computer. It seems to happen most of the time while on the forum. I have Meeting Maker (alway network connected) work calendar running in the background and Eudora open for mail. Other than that, when I go in to Dreamweaver or Photoshop, I usually close out everything else. Just kind of wierd and annoying. Jonathan

Jonathan - you have email. Well I finally took the plunge and changed the settings and the computer rebooted. So I guess we'll see if that fixes the problem. Jonathan

Only if they have been reading the board. Made Chris pee his pants, now what kind of parental role model is that? I thought that you were supposed to train your kids not to do that. Actually think that I need to reinstall IE but not sure you can uninstall it? W98 ver2. Guess I'll find out on Friday. Too busy tomorrow. Of course I guess I could blame all of my sick twisted posts on what Lyle told me to do to my computer.

I wouldn't try to uninstall it. You can try "repair" (start | settings | control panel | add remove programs | Internet Explorer | Repair), or perhaps better, just go to microsoft.com, downloads and download and install IE6, service pack 1. It seems that the latest release does cure some problems.
I take it there was no improvement from the settings changes?

Well it doesn't crash as often but at times it will. It's annoying more than anything. Now what it does when you close IE is state that IE has caused an error or something and will now close which is what I was doing anyway. But it kind of gets old after a while.

I think what it is, is those who goof off more at work have more stars than those who are actually doing work at work and not on the net.
