Hey guys,
I got both of the axles installed...Dana 60 from a '79 Ford 350 with 4.88s and Corporate 14 bolt rear with 4.88s, Detroit and disc conversion from Tim "The shaker" Fryer. Tim has been a great help, he also built my steering for me out of 1 ton ball joints and straight 1.5" tubing! Not breaking that anytime soon! Plus, I just love the full floating rear end and the Warn lockouts on the front!
Also, a major kudos goes out to Paul for welding the dodge brackets onto this old front axle so that I could have the same 5 link setup! He also installed the gears and locker and re-welded the rear perches so I could elimnate the shims. Paul is the man!
Also, I would like to say that JJ at Delmarva in Chesapeake is the greatest guy to have do your drivshafts! I went to Craft since they are about 1 mile from my house here in Hampton, but they took an hour and a half to just BS before saying they "might could" do it for some exorbitant price! I went straight to JJ and he swapped out the yoke on my rear Dodge driveshaft for one that would match the 1350 series u-joint on the Corp 14 no problem at all, and at a much more reasonable price. Also, he called Neapco and had them get a custom u-joint that has the Dodge ends for my driveshaft and 1350 for the other sides to fit the Dana 60. It would have been cooler to get a custom front DS, but he said this will help me since I don't have much money. Plus, with my truck only having the 318 motor, I won't be blowing the stock DS and u-joint ends up, so no need to go bigger. Plus, he wants the u-joint to be able to give if it has to, instead of blowing other stuff up. Delmarva even had Neapco mail it to my friends house in Alabama since I am going there tonight and couldn' wait around for it. It will get there when I do!
So far, the truck is a gas guzzler around town, even more so than before, due to the 4.88s. That is because the rpms are so high in those low gears. But once on the highway, with OD, it does about the same as before, maybe a little better on mpg. The power is awesome, I just step on it and it goes, no waiting for the truck to down shift or anything like with the 3.92s before.
Also, I am using 35x14.50 Radial Ground Hawgs. So far they are awesome. they are on 16.5" wheels, so I won't wheel much with them to prevent the tire from popping off. I have to wait to save up money to get 8 lug rums for my 37" boggers.
Well, this post is long enough already, I will give you guys a report on the truck after I get back from Alabama and Florida next week! Now that the truck is running pretty good, I can get back to wheeling with you guys! I have missed hanging out with ya'll!!!!!
