Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of 7 explorers and heros: Colonel Rick Husband, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Anderson, Commander Laurel Clark, Captain David Brown; Commander William McCool, Doctor Kalpana Chawla and Colonel Ilan Ramon (IDF). As the massive search for clues on the tragic loss of Columbia and her crew continues, our thoughts are also with the hundreds of police and military members conducting the search. The enormity of their task is illustrated in the image of the debris cloud captured on NOAA weather radar (bottom). Finally, I believe it is worth reviewing the quote below: “If we die, we want people to accept it. We're in a risky business, and we hope that if anything happens to us it will not delay the program. The conquest of space is worth the risk of life.” —Gus Grissom (Footprints on the Moon), p. 125 This radar image taken at 9:15 A.M. EST Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 from NOAA's Shreveport, Louisiana report station shows the area where the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated. This particular type of radar image is used to report the density of particles in the area. The reddish yellow streak is thought to be caused by the extensive debris and smoke from the space shuttle Columbia. (AP Photo/NASA)
