So how has everyone's Friday the 13th been. It is 0622 in the morning and mine has already started. First I left my swipe card, to get into the shipyard at home. Luckily there was an MA behind me so she "escorted" me to the ship. Well as I was crossing the ship to the barge, I was getting my military ID out of my pocket, when someone bumped my elbow. Out flew my ID into the murky water below. Now is it floating somewhere in the channel. Oh well. All I could do was laugh, now only one more bad thing has to happen today and my 13th is done. So anything bad happen to anybody else today?

Yeah, I had some !@#$ in a white Ford pickup poking along at 60 mph in the left lane of the Great Bridge Bypass this morning. He wouldn't get over, even when there was no traffic in the right lane. Sorry about your day so far. At least it was just your badge that got bumped overboard, and not you.

Well right after I posted this last post, I went to one of the workspaces to get a chit so that I could get a new ID card, I went to open the door to leave and wound up taking the doorknob off while the door was still closed.
Yeah I feel you on the Ford Truck drivers. This morning I had two ford trucks that were headed to the Ford Factory cut me off so that they could get over to the factory. I was going 55 in a 40, I guess I wasn't going fast enough. Dang Ford Truck drivers. To top it off it was raining cats and dogs.

The shipyard sucks anyway. I forget my badge on a regular basis.

Which shipyard? They are telling us that the GW will be checking in to dry dock @ NNSY FEB 05. Possibly renting space for a year.
I've never had he privilage of having done a yard period...nobdy seems to have a very bright outlook about it...lol.
I didn't even realize yesterday was the 13th. I didn't have anythign bad go on. We are busier than heck right now...our house goes on the market today. Predicting that it might not last the weekend (hopefully).

I was on a Patrol Craft while i was in the navy... we went to norshipco and we fit FOUR PC's in ONE drydock (ya they are kinda small...) and talk about long days... only for the engineers and the fireparty. Of course I was a quatermaster so i should have gotten off early right??? WRONG! Stupid me volunteered (whats that saying again??? Never Again Volunteer Yourself=NAVY) for on scene leader so what could have been a two hour days always turned out to be 12 hour days. oh and by the way nothnig bad happened to me yesturday but wait I havnt heard about my jeep yet which is in south florida. so i donno yet

I have been on the IKE in NNSY for the past 3 years. It really blows. But we won't be doing anything like the GW is. You guys are going in for a "quick" refit. It will be bad, but not that bad. Prepare to do some walking though, parking eats donkey sack.

Hey now, NNSY is a great place! I have been there 10.5 years, Tim works there now, and Gary has been there since it opened in 1767. Be nice.

I have to agree with Karl, NNSY definately sucks. The walk is like almost a mile it seems like. Then you don't want to bring any nice car to the parking lot. People like to break into cars there. Also watch out for people lurking in the shadows too, we had many incidents of shipyard workers waiting for a good catch. Right now we are in Metro Machine which is in Portsmouth. It isn't to bad there. They have buses that run to take you to and from the gate. The walk to the ship from there isn't to bad either. It is those stairs that kill you though. But the added bonus is that when you have duty, you have view of Downtown Norfolk, and Waterside. You would be amazed at some of the things that you see when you have the 0000 to 0400 topside rover.

Oh the other thing that happened on Friday, was Paul and I were filling up the jeep to head to NC. I went and grabbed a bag of ice. As I broke the ice on the pavement, the bag ripped open and ice went everywhere. So yeah, Friday wasn't really my day, but we all had a laugh about it.

Jen,
Metro is in Norfolk, not Portsmouth. I had to correct that in the deck logs one night too.
Thanks for coming out there this weekend. We had a good time. If we had known that you were going back home last night, we could've offered up the extra queen bed we had in our room and split the cost.

Ken,
Thanks for the offer, but we didn't really know if we were going home or not. Still had fun though.

Yard Periods ROCK, like a sharp stick in the eye! ;D nothing like spending your last 8 months on a ship in the yards, transfer and then get to a ship that is going into a yard period, good times good times!
