WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Jeep-borne anti-aircraft missiles and fighter jets were on high alert in the nation's capital on Wednesday as the United States mounted increased defenses against a possible new attack by al Qaeda. Story here: story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=578&e=1&cid=578&u=/nm/20030212/ts_nm/attack_usa_threat_dcBy the way, there was an unfortunate incident in Baltimore yesterday where a little girl was kidnapped. Maryland had it's first "Amber Alert". The alert was posted on the highway overhead signs. Unfortunately, around here there are apparently a lot of folk who don't know what the "Amber Alert" system is all about (missing kids), and with tensions running a bit high, it created major traffic jams with folks slowing down to read the signs and freaking out a bit. Be aware of the various alerts and what they mean, and do pay attention to what's going on around you. Be safe.

Definitely a different world then it was a few years ago. Diane told me about the anti-aircraft missle launchers. I thought she was nuts. Her radio can pick of WTOP? out of DC. The Navy flies some sort of training pattern that goes over our house at about 200ft about tree level. They make their turn just west of the house and then get on it as the pass over the house. It's pretty wild when they do it and you're on the roof. They have started doing these runs at different times ie early (pre-dawn) morning and mid evening. Here is a link of a PDF from the gov about security. www.fema.gov/pdf/areyouready/security.pdfJonathan
