WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Jeep-borne anti-aircraft missiles and fighter jets were on high alert in the nation's capital on Wednesday as the United States mounted increased defenses against a possible new attack by al Qaeda.

By the way, there was an unfortunate incident in Baltimore yesterday where a little girl was kidnapped. Maryland had it's first "Amber Alert". The alert was posted on the highway overhead signs. Unfortunately, around here there are apparently a lot of folk who don't know what the "Amber Alert" system is all about (missing kids), and with tensions running a bit high, it created major traffic jams with folks slowing down to read the signs and freaking out a bit. Be aware of the various alerts and what they mean, and do pay attention to what's going on around you. Be safe.
