So, on the 1st of Jan I beat the rusty body off the frame with a sledge hammer, leaving only the cowl. As of Easter weekend, the frame is boxed, and the aluminum tub is almost ready to drop on. I have to do a little tweaking to the lower part of the cowl to accomidate though. While the tub is off, I will be putting a NON U.S. spec 4 speed transmission, and Advanced Adapters "Orion" t-case. The roll cage will also be tied to the frame, and the seats mounted to the cage. Now how do I put a pic in here?

So green73, am I to assume your FJ-40 is a green '73? I have a green '73. Currious to hear what else you're doing for mods. Mine has changed a little in the past couple years.

Most of my mods have already been done. It has FJ60 power steering, Spring Over axel conversion, 4 wheel disks, rear locker. 2F engine, chromoly front axel shafts, and cryo treated birfields, Hy-Steer, and alot of other odds and ends. Yes it's a 73, but by title only. As it sits the only things from 1973 remaining is the frame, cowl, hood, and bib.

Also sprung over with shackle reversal up front and rear spring turn around to gain wheel base. Stock axle equip except running Smurfields. Disk brake conv up front only, scout saginaw ps with high steer (needs more tweaking though). Sitting on 37 SSRs. Where are you located?

I am out in Poquoson
I gotta get this thing done by the 1st week in May. I don't want to miss GSMTR in Tellico.
"Fran" if you are in need of a 2F I have one spare. Complete except for the carb. I was planning on using it as a builder engine. I'll let it go cheap.
I also have the springs swapped around for the wheelbase gain. Helped the ride alot. With your drivetrain I bet that thing is super slow. I am guessing over 100:1 crawler gear. I was planning on doing a SM420 swap along with the Orion. I even had the tranny and adapter. Decided I didn't want to have new drivelines made again, and sold the SM420, and have the Aussie 4 speed on the way.
Currently mine is on 35's but before I get it all back together, I'll have 37" Irok's, or Maxxis Creepy Crawlers. The 38's in the pix are for fittment, they aren't mine.

I haven't made it GSMTR yet. One of these years I will. If only work wouldn't get into the way. I already have a line on a 2F, but if it falls through, I'll keep you in mind. I thought it would be good build to learn project. Yes, the crawl ratio is quite slow, actually I'm just over 200:1. I rarely use it. Though it's good for turtle races. Do you frequent the VLCL? Good luck on the build.

Green73, Is that an alum tub from aqualu industries in Canada? Been looking at their jeep tubs and was looking for an opinion of their fit and quality from someone that has dealt with their products before. Looks like a great rig.

Yeah the tub is an Aqualu genII. I got it from someone who didn't use it at all, so essentially, new, which was a money saver. You are welcome to drop by and look at it, but the next couple weeks I may be difficult to catch at home. Stupid exercise coming up, and a serious potential for working this weekend.
I got the tranny and t-case out last night though, in prep for the new stuff taking their place. I also got the t-case crossmember mounts fabbed up and installed. So progress is happening.

Update: Still have the tranny and t-case out. The 1/4 panels are done, as is the cage to frame tie-in. Started on the seat frame this weekend and that is mostly done too.
I had a snafu on the t-case, and snapped a retainer on one of the shafts. I am waiting for a replacement from Advanced Adapters to complete that, so I can get that all together. Once done with the tranny and t-case swap the crawl ratio will be 81:1, from the stock 28:1
