hey guys!
long time ago, it was suggested I creat a buildup thread of my TJ. While not much has been done to it since I last posted pictures, here they are in a quick summarization, with some detail as to what I've done to the Toy.
Here it is, stock. with the exception of some Wally World pimp-o-riffic aux lights.
Bigger tires. check it out, REAL tread!!! And blingin rims!
Free M/Ts that I save for wheeling. Just a nice little comparison to what I would be jumping up to.
here it is, bigger tires, and a 2" body lift installed. A little tall, body lift wise, but I can certainly deal with an extra inch.
Poser shot.
this is a shot focusing (sort of) on my solution to directionals due to fender chopping. I cut the fronts off, and am still currently in the process of reinforcing the flat fenders. However, with no frontal directionals, (or sides, once I cut off the flares how I wanted to) and not having the money or desire to conform like everyone else, and put CJ lights in the traditional spot, I cut and installed truck sidemarker lights on top of the fenders. A little tricky to see in the day time, (and my theory is that if I black out the back and "inside" outside of the lense, it'll make it more noticeable) but they definitely work, and look awesome at night. Low profile allows them to be very trail friendly (although not tested yet). And at 5 bucks a piece, easily replaced!! I had wanted to go with VW beetle style lights, but I didn't want the cost of those either.
This focuses more on the actual fender. I still have that gusset there, because I'm deciding if I want to cut most of that out, and reinforce it with a single tubular gusset, or weld a piece of pipe underneath, around the front and sides.
My goal for the TJ will not to make it as high as possible. But to make it as low as possible, and skidplate/protect everything I can, within reason. I plan on doing a 2" budget boost, and possibly some XJ front coils, and some sort of solution for cheap lift in the rear. my object, however, is to stay close to stock driveline angles as possible.
I have an 8.8 w/discs awaiting a rebuild with 4.56s and a locker, with superior 5 lug axles. I haven't followed Jays readup too closely, but from my general consensus, something similar to what he's doing, on some sort of budget. I might go for an Exploder's internals and do that for the time being. The sky's the limit in that dept. really. No rush with it though, especially since I've already rebuilt the rear end a few thousand miles ago.
