Cool. You'll be straight once we get that stock pitman arm on, too. We need to get that shift lever off the column sometime also...

Nope. Need to tie in roll cage, repair section in frame (not really a build), build a sound system, fab tranny skid. Hey Bill have you put in the bar wraps yet?

No, I still have a cooling issue. I need to pull some plugs to see if she is running lean, put a high flow water pump on, check the timing, add some watery wet/ wetter water ?, and add slick 50 on my next oil change to see if I can get the cooling under control. Then tie roll bar to frame, then skid tranny and oil pan and finally an exo skeleton to finish her off.

Billy, don't waste your money on Slick50, it's snake oil. Tell me, how hot are you running, and what thermostat are you using? What water pump, and what fan? I might be able to help you out with that 351. I didn't know you were running warm.

... add slick 50 on my next oil change to see if I can get the cooling under control... ::shudder:: I would definitely not recommend adding solid particles to your oil to try and reduce cooling problems. Even the creator of Teflon (DuPont) thought that was an incredibly stupid idea, before Slick 50 sued them into silence. Teflon is a solid, and solids never belong in engine oil ... I'm with Keith, that's definitely not where your problem is ... By the way, which E-fan are you running? If it's an aftermarket unit and not a factory fan (Taurus, Mark VIII, Volvo ...), then that's probably your problem. The aftermarket fans are universally crap, their huge air flow ratings are all unobstructed (no radiator). ;D

Slick 50 + '86 Ford Ranger 2.0L 4-cyl = 5 of 8 lifters seized, 3 seized into the head. That was one of the most entertaining and expensive valve jobs I've ever done myself. Full synthetic oils and fluids are a better investment in the long run.

I just looked back at the first buildup post. You're running a SPAL fan? The biggest SPAL I see in their catalog is basically this 16" guy, and it's downright teeny. You'd want at least two of those bare minimum before you're reach any sort of airflow number I'd consider adequate for a 351W on the trail. And that would still be iffy.

I agree with Chuck, I would think the Spal isn't up to the task. I personally would double check the water pump first and make sure it is reverse rotation. I've seen people put the wrong rotation pump. Then I'd take the thermostat out, and put it a good quality high flow 180* thermostat. I exclusively use Robert Shaw. I think now it is labeled under EMP/Stewart at summit racing. Do not use the ones from Advance Auto/autozone, etc. I've seen too many of them not open all the way, or open at the wrong temp when I pre-check them in a pot of boiling water. Just stay away. Use the Red Line water wetter, it can help and it's $7 at Advance. I really don't think you need a high flow pump, and I really don't think that would help either. I never use them, and I have a 500 hp 5.0 that never gets above 190*. Get rid of the Spal fan, either go to pnp and get a fan from a 3.8 Ford Taurus or get one from a Volvo (that's what I use and it's incredible, there isn't another one out there that pulls as hard). Or you can go ebay or corral.net, there's a bunch of people selling them for $50. Then get a Bosch 75 amp relay and a temp switch and you should be good to go. That is if those fans will fit, I don't know what the clearance is. If you have less than 4" clearance, then I'd recommend the flex a lite part 118. I usually don't like those guys, but for a thin fan, it's the best, 2500 cfm, I used it on the CJ and loved it.
