The K5 forum has some good info on building a 12 bolt. They put a detroit and Moser shafts in it to make it stronger.
The front I would upgrade to 30 spline inners when you decide on which locker you want. You should have 28 spline shafts now.

I was just reading and article and from what I see a 30 spline chrome moly axle shaft kit is about $600 and only %30 stronger. Seems a little steep since I'm only going to running 35's not 37's and above with occasional wheeling. Sounds like it might be a little more cost effective to snag some trail spares in the event that I pop a shaft. If I decide to turbo the diesel then I might want to but running a factory NP208 for a while with a N/A Diesel doesn't look like I'll have too many problems. But naturally stay off the skinny peddle and use skill.
I'm doing a search on line right now to try and find a short shaft kit for a NP208. So I can do like the SYE in the 231's. I don't need the drive shaft length but would like to install a slip shaft verses the 208 set up. Any body know if a kit like this even exists?

You can get stock 30 innners. I think GM upgraded to them in the last years of the K-5.
Don't quote me on it but I think you can swap Jeep NP208 rear output to convert the output of the Chevy NP 208 to a fixed yoke.

2 Questions...
1. Looks like 80-83 FSJ's had 208's in them as well as 80-?? j10 and J20 trucks. Any body have one of these Jeeps with a np208 I could probe into or at least take some external case measurements? 2. Found a conversion joint for a 10bolt driveshaft to mate to a 12bolt axle at A&B auto for $24.
Still looking for a FSJ witha 208. The Waggy that I have has a 228 in it not a 208.
